FORMER Claret Kieran Trippier believes he has plenty to thank Burnley and Sean Dyche for after winning his fifth England cap.

Trippier started both of the Three Lions friendlies during the international break, against Holland and Italy, and the Tottenham full-back looks a certainty to make the World Cup squad.

But the 27-year-old insists his time at Turf Moor was key to his development, with Trippier joining the Clarets from Manchester City in 2011 and going on to make 185 appearances.

“I’m delighted to be in the England team, but I’ve so much to thank Burnley for," he said.

“Sean Dyche, the manager, worked me extremely hard when I was there, and I’ve got to give him a lot of credit.

“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all the years I was at Burnley and the previous teams I was at before that.

“I’m just so grateful for the opportunity I got at Burnley.”

Trippier is one of several players to have made the England team after significant spells with the Clarets.

He was joined in the latest squad by two more Burnley graduates, with Nick Pope and James Tarkowski involved for the first time.

Tarkowski won his first cap against Italy at Wembley on Tuesday, becoming the fourth Burnley player to feature for England in less than two years.

“I was delighted to see him (Tarky) and Popey get a call-up because they’ve done unbelievable with Burnley this season and, as a club, they’ve done unbelievably well," Trippier said.

“Seeing those two in training they’ve done really well and I was delighted for Tarky to get his first cap, and to cap it all off he did really well.”
