BURNLEY defender James Tarkowski made his England debut against Italy at Wembley on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old became the 28th Claret to represent the Three Lions and the fourth in less than two years.
Here's his key moments from a promising debut that also included a moment of controversy:
2 - A first international touch for James Tarkowski, calmly collecting possession from Ashley Young and sending it back to Jack Butland for an early touch
3 - The first sighting of one of Tarkowski’s crossfield balls as he tries to pick out Kyle Walker. Lorenzo Insigne just gets his head to the pass first
5 - An early sight of goal for the Clarets centre back. Kieran Trippier’s corner is flicked on but Tarkowski loops a back post header onto the roof of the net
9 - Tarkowski turns creator now. His pass finds Jesse Lingard, who then releases Jamie Vardy but Leonardo Bonucci gets in to block the striker’s shot
14 - A couple of solid headed clearances as Italy enjoy a spell of pressure
19 - It’s Tarkowski’s first foul as an international. England have a free-kick 40 yards from goal but Tarkowski is penalised for a push on Leonardo Bonucci
27 - Italy look to respond after England have just taken the lead, but Tarkowski heads out of play to clear the danger
30 - The Burnley man is troubled defensively for the first time as Immobile glides through a challenge before shooting wide on his left foot
36 - Another goal threat from the man who hasn’t scored a goal for the Clarets. A back post header is blocked before Tarkowski forces the ball goalwards again but sees it cleared
40 - Tarkowski has been the king of the block for Burnley this season and he comes up with another to stop Antonio Candreva’s cross getting into the box
48 - A sign of Tarkowski’s confidence on the ball early in the second half as he collects a pass from Butland and then chips a ball over Candreva’s shot straight to Ashley Young’s feet
51 - A round of applause from the Wembley crowd as Tarkowski sends a diagonal ball straight to the feet of Walker
55 - Not a great deal of defending to do in the early stages of the second half but another clever pass from Tarkowski finds the dangerous Vardy
72 - Some defensive work for Tarkowski to do, hooking a clearance as the ball was floated over his shoulder towards Andrea Belotti
73 - A change at the back, with John Stones off after taking a whack to the face and Eric Dier dropping into the centre of defence
86 - Controversy right at the end. Tarkowski stands ever so slightly on Chiesa’s foot in the area as he tries to get back in. Referee Deniz Aytekin gives a corner, but after a VAR review awards a penalty against the Claret, which Lorenzo Insigne scores
