OUR Clarets jury discuss the big issues at Turf Moor. This week it's whether the Burnley squad would need strengthening to cope with Europa League football next season.
MATT RIGGS
I think the squad would need strengthening regardless of whether we are in Europe or not.
We can't go another season with just three centre backs so that would be the obvious position to strengthen.
I think midfield would need to be strengthened in the event of Dean Marney being released and maybe Scott Arfield moving on. Finally, I think we could do with another striker.
ANDREW GREENWOOD
Absolutely. We’ve seen in the past how Europe can sometimes take it’s toll on a squad and we haven’t the biggest by any means.
Qualification could well start in July and if we were to qualify for the group stages, it would mean a lot of Thursday-Sunday games. Including the travel, it could well have an effect on a small squad so, yes, strengthening would be a must.
AMER STANSFIELD-MUSHTAQ
There's a few of things to consider if the Clarets qualify for the Europa League.
Would our season start earlier than most of the Premier League, will the squad be deep enough to cope with four competitions and will it affect the most important thing for the club which is Premier League survival?
It would be up to the club or gaffer if they wanted to take Europe seriously and if that was the case the depth of the squad would need to be deeper than it is now in my opinion otherwise it could affect our league form.
