SEAN Dyche remains keen to add a central defender to his ranks before tonight’s 11pm deadline but the clock is against Burnley.

So far the Clarets have made two additions this month, solving a shortage of numbers and of speed in the wide areas.

But the squad remains a central defender short, with James Tarkowski, Ben Mee and Kevin Long the only three senior players in that position.

Dyche has spoken of his desire to add a fourth member to that list but it has proved a thankless task this window.

Nottingham Forest’s England Under-21 international Joe Worrall is a man admired in the corridors of power at Turf Moor but a deal today is not considered likely, while interest in Arsenal’s Rob Holding also looks set to come to nothing.

With Dyche saying on Monday that Burnley won’t be making signings for the ‘sake of it’ it could be a frustrating day for the Clarets.

And there will be no major departures from Turf Moor. Goalkeeper Adam Legzdins could leave on loan while a similar move for Freddie Ulvestad may be scuppered by injuries in midfield to Steven Defour and Dean Marney.

Some of the club’s youngsters are also likely to go out on loan.

Burnley are keen to see Aiden O’Neill leave on loan to get more game time, while Tom Anderson is also set to depart on loan having been recalled from Port Vale on Monday.
