With the transfer window set to close at 11pm, what dealings could we expect from Rovers on transfer deadline day?

The noises coming from Tony Mowbray would suggest not a lot, with the Ewood boss happy with the dealings he has done so far.

A quiet day is expected on the signings front, particularly with Rovers set to welcome back a number of players back from injury within the next month.

The injury to Charlie Mulgrew is balanced out by the return of Darragh Lenihan who is set to play for Rovers Under-23s at Fulham on Friday as he steps up his recovery from a fractured metatarsal.

Rovers made Paul Downing’s move from MK Dons a permanent one early in January, while Amari’I Bell provides extra cover in defence after joining from Fleetwood Town.

Sam Hart left for Rochdale on loan 48 hours prior to Bell signing, but the departure of Elliott Ward on loan to MK Dons yesterday could well see Scott Wharton stay at Rovers despite interest from a number of League Two clubs.

Further up the pitch, there is still the possibility of Rovers bringing in a central midfielder, following Rekeem Harper’s recall by West Bromwich Albion on January 2.

Corry Evans is now back fit, with Peter Whittingham a few weeks further back, while the performances of Elliott Bennett have eased Rovers’ urgency to bring in a new recruit.

Former skipper Jason Lowe remains on the radar but an encouraging display in the FA Cup for Birmingham last weekend means he may now be in the first team thoughts of Blues boss Steve Cotterill.

The attacking areas have certainly been strengthened, with the arrivals of Jack Payne and Adam Armstrong, while the returns of Ben Gladwin and Marcus Antonsson will provide a further boost.

That’s not to say that Mowbray isn’t ruling out business however, but any dealings may well have an eye to the future.

Middlesbrough loanee Harry Chapman, still sidelined with the hamstring injury picked up in October, is a player that Rovers would like to sign permanently.

However, that deal is likely to be revisited in the summer given the 21-year-old is out of contract and Boro have yet to decide whether to offer him a new one.

Rovers kept us waiting until the final two hours of the last window before making three signings, so certainly don’t rule anything out.
