TONY Mowbray admits having to recruit so many players this summer can be beneficial to Blackburn Rovers – but only if he gets his signings right.

Mowbray has 15 players under contract for next season but admits there are key areas in which he needs to focus his attention in the transfer market.

Eleven players have left the club since the end of the last campaign while Connor Mahoney appears unlikely to sign a new deal.

It means Mowbray faces a busy summer as he looks to add to his ranks, as well as keeping hold of his contracted stars.

“Players are the currency of your club,” the Ewood chief told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Having to recruit that many can be seen as a positive but only if you get them right, but on the other hand there is a fair chance you won’t get them all right with the more that you bring in.

“You have got to get the jigsaw puzzle right, work diligently, and get the best possible players in to the club that you can.”

Mowbray sought assurances from owners Venky’s during his recent visit to India that he would be able to recruit as well as keep hold of the core of his contracted players.

The Rovers boss will head up the club’s recruitment this summer following the departure of Director of Football and Operations Paul Senior.

Mowbray has revealed that money will be made available for transfers by the club’s owners, despite the only outlay last season being the £250,000 spent on player of the season Derrick Williams.

But the Ewood chief knows it’s important to get the balance of his signings right with Mowbray keen to find the right blend of youth and experience.

He added: “I want to bring in hungry, talented footballers, but I have spoken before about getting the balance right.

“Hopefully we can bring in some quality, but also some experience.

“It is a league in which you have to have experience but I also want to look to recruit youth and athleticism.

“I think there’s a core that can help us get the job done but we need to add some quality around that.”

Meanwhile, former Rovers loanee Tommie Hoban could be set for another loan spell in the Championship next season.

Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway is reported to be keen on taking the 23-year-old to Loftus Road.

Hoban spent the whole of last season with Rovers, but was restricted to just 16 appearances having missed five months of action with a dislocated shoulder which required surgery.
