NEW Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle is keen to keep Tommy Spurr at the club.

Spurr is one of eight first-team players who will be out of contract come June 30.

And it is understood that Coyle has already made it clear that he wants the left-back to stay.

But Spurr, who has made 84 appearances for Rovers since his free transfer arrival from Doncaster three years ago, is also wanted by other Championship clubs.

Simon Eastwood, Matt Kilgallon, Lee Williamson, Chris Taylor, Simeon Jackson, Chris Brown and Nathan Delfouneso are also set to become free agents on July 1.

And asked about the future of Rovers’ out-of-contract players, Coyle said: “There’s one or two (players) who I think would be of interest in terms of trying to keep at the football club.

“But within that, you’ve got to understand there are those who will have had different offers from different clubs because they’ve been made available in that respect.”

The final decision on which players are handed fresh contracts rests with Coyle.

Taylor finished the season on loan at Millwall, the beaten League One play-off finalists, who are keen to sign him on a permanent deal.

And, according to Lions boss Neil Harris, the midfielder will not be getting a new contract at Rovers.

Harris said: “He’s Blackburn’s player at the moment and will be until July 1.

“I’ve already spoken at length with Chris. He has really enjoyed being here. I really enjoy working with him and he enjoys working for the club.

“He’s really come in and added quality to our squad. He’s certainly of the quality we want to attract for next season and the type of character we want.

“Talks will be key between us in the next week or so about his future. Blackburn have said they won’t be retaining his services so he’s free to talk to other clubs.”
