MIDFIELDER Jason Lowe admitted his first Blackburn Rovers outing in more than seven months felt like he was making his debut all over again.

The Rovers Academy graduate’s successful return was one of the positives of Saturday’s bore 0-0 draw at Wolves.

Lowe came through the full 90 minutes to prove he is back to full fitness after an injury nightmare stretching back nearly two years.

The 24-year-old has been restricted to just 19 appearances in the past two seasons since suffering a stress fracture in his foot in July 2014.

But after pulling on a Rovers shirt for the 142nd time, and for the first time since August, Lowe said: “It’s been a long while.

“It was just great to be back out there, back in the fold, and to have the buzz back.

“I’ve worked very hard to get back and now I’m hoping to get some rewards until the end of the season.”

Lowe was only told he would be starting by Rovers boss Paul Lambert in the hours leading up to the Molineux stalemate.

“It was last minute,” said the former England Under-21 international, who made his debut for the club as a 19-year-old in an FA Cup third-round 1-0 home win over QPR in January 2011.

“When you’re in the squad and when you’re travelling you prepare as though you’re playing.

“I was ready to go if needed and when I saw my name in the starting XI I was excited.

“There were a few jitters and it’s been that long it felt like it was my debut even though I’ve played enough games for the club.

“But once the game settled down and you’ve made your first pass the adrenaline settles down, you focus on what your job is and play the game normally.”

Lowe twice attempted to play through the pain he was feeling in his foot after sustaining the injury in a pre-season friendly with Stoke City at Ewood Park.

But after it became unbearable he decided to go under the knife.

The second operation he underwent in September proved a success and Lowe, who nearly set-up a late winner for Jordi Gomez, said: “The foot feels as strong as it has felt.

“Hopefully it stays that way until the end of the season.”

But Lowe’s delight was tempered by the fact that Rovers were unable to return to winning ways.

He said: “It’s a long season and any point away from home is a decent point.

“But we can play a lot better than that and we have played a lot better than that.

“But still I think on another day we could have got the three points because their keeper has made three fantastic saves to keep them in it.

“We’ve not played great but we could have been leaving with a 2-0 or 3-0 victory.

“So there are positives to take. It’s a point away from home and now we go on to the next one.”

Rovers are at home to Roses rivals Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Tickets in the Bryan Douglas Darwen End home section and the whole of the Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End cost £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for juniors.
