BURNLEY manager Sean Dyche says he has not got a set number of transfer targets, as he continues to strengthen his squad.

The Clarets were waiting for ratification from the Football League and Football Association, and international clearance, before unveiling Jelle Vossen as their second summer signing.

The Belgian striker met up with his new team-mates in Evian-les-Bains late on Monday night and passed his medical yesterday.

Dyche had been hopeful of making two new signings before leaving for the club’s pre-season training camp in south east France, on the back of making right back Matt Lowton his first.

In the end, Vossen was the only target who was able to join the squad for day one.

But Burnley remain active in their search for incomings. And Dyche is not setting any limits in terms of quantity.

“There’s not a given number,” he said.

“We want a competitive squad, I’ve said that many times. You always do.

“We are in a position where we can build a squad.

“We did that last year. There’s always manoeuvring around that each year – season on season – so we will be looking to do that.

“But there’s not an absolute number.”

Burnley made eight permanent signings before the summer transfer window closed during their Premier League campaign, with player of the season George Boyd among them. Michael Keane made his move permanent in January following a loan spell from Manchester United that was agreed on deadline day.

While Dyche would have preferred to have three new faces in his squad for their five nights in France, which ends with a friendly against Swiss Third Division side Etoile Carouge on Friday, he said: “We want quality, we want people who can challenge, we want people who can take this club forward – back to where we want to be (in the Premier League).”
