MIDFIELDER Tom Cairney insists Blackburn Rovers will recover from the devastation at seeing their proud unbeaten league run end by taking it out on Bournemouth on Saturday.

The home clash with the Cherries comes hot on the heels of Tuesday night’s controversial and heartbreaking late loss to Norwich City.

MORE TOP STORIES:

The 3-1 reverse put a halt to Rovers’ run of 14 Championship games without defeat and left Cairney feeling as low as he has ever done in his burgeoning career.

But the 23-year-old has no doubt he and his team-mates can pick themselves up for the visit of a Bournemouth side who were the last team to leave Ewood Park with three points back on March 12.

Cairney, who broke the deadlock at Norwich with what he believes is the best goal he has scored, said: “I can’t ever remember feeling like that after a game, it was silent in the dressing room. The boys gave everything so we were distraught.

“But Robbo (Paul Robinson) said in the dressing room it is sometimes about how you lose and we definitely went down fighting.

“The boys worked so hard for each other, it was unbelievable, because the unbeaten league run meant a lot to us.

“But now we’ve got to take that frustration out on Bournemouth on Saturday.

“It will not be easy because they’re a good side who have started well.

“The boys have covered a lot of miles (on Tuesday) but we’ll rest our legs and I’m sure we’ll have the quality and the firepower to cause them a few problems.”

Cairney moved level with Rudy Gestede at the top of Rovers’ scoring charts on Tuesday after he netted his second stunning strike of the season.

But he admitted his first-minute goal at Carrow Road surpassed his superb effort in the opening day draw at home to Cardiff City.

“I don’t think I’ve ever hit a sweeter one than that,” said Cairney, whose favourite other goal for Rovers came away at Barnsley last season.

“It was my first touch and I’ve never had a better first touch. If felt surreal, as if I was still in the warm up.

“It was a great goal but it’s just a shame we didn’t get a win or a draw with it.”

Two minutes after Cairney’s sensational opener Rovers had an appeal for a penalty turned down after Steven Whittaker handled Jordan Rhodes’ goalbound effort in the box.

And they were further riled when referee Graham Scott awarded Norwich a penalty, from which they eventually equalised after Paul Robinson had saved the initial attempt, after a cross into the box struck Jason Lowe’s arm.

Cairney said: “I don’t see how you can give a penalty against Jason Lowe and not give ours.

“Everyone appealed and when everyone appeals there’s usually a lot of truth in it.

“I don’t know whether it was too early in the game or the ref felt pressure from the crowd as there was 25,000 there.

“But no matter how early it is, he’s got to do the right thing and he didn’t.”

As disappointing as the performance was on Tuesday night, if you don't get any of the major decisions in your favour you will always struggle.

We've had three legitimate penalties not given so far this season whilst nailing Jason Lowe for 'deliberate' handball on Tuesday was ridiculous.

Looks like Rhodes could well be gone before our next game. If this move goes through we are most certainly f@#ked.

Rhodes signed for Blackburn Rovers on 30 August 2012, for a fee of £8m. The fee was payable in stages over 4 years at £2m a year. Therefore we still owe £4m on Rhodes plus 20% of any profit we might make on him to Huddersfield Town.

Should we get £8m we have to push £4m of that straight to Huddersfield Town, plus a further 20% of the add-on as long as Hull remain in the Premier League, this could be up to £800k.

What a mess.

Best joke of the day. Sadly all the money we receive for Rhodes will have to be used to offset the losses for last season. We also cannot offer anymore large contracts due to FFP, so I guess we'll be making do with what we currently have.

Don't talk cr@p all your life.

I don't think (and certainly don't hope) that Rhodes will go in this window but if he does then our side will certainly be much weaker for it.

Brown is an okay player but is no where near the goal scorer that Rhodes is - that's why Rhodes is being talked about in the £12m bracket and we signed Brown for FREE.

Also BRFC thinks that JR is a far better player than Brown because they pay Rhodes about £2.5m in wages and Brown about £500,000.

If they rated them the same then surely their salaries would be much closer together.

Also, please stop predicting Rovers to win - you must be the worst football results predictor in the history of British football.

You predicted us to win every game the season we were relegated from the PL and then to win every game the season afterwards when we nearly got relegated from the championship!!

If you're gonna start tipping us to win every week then Rhodes might as well leave this week as we'll end up mid table mediocrity, at best!!!

(Do us all a favour and try tipping Burnley to win every week then we can all relax knowing they'll be relegated with a record low points tally).

Unfortunately we cannot reinvest £11m in the squad whilst carrying a loss of £30m+. Thats the whole idea of FFP I'm afraid. We can only spend within our means on the proviso that we carry a maximum annual loss of just £3m. Therefore the money received for Rhodes will be used in an attempt to convince the FFP administrators that whilst we are non-compliant we are taking steps to reduce the deficit and work towards becoming self sufficient within the next two transfer windows as the club have already planned.

This is all expected. The reason Rhodes was offered the contract extension only a month ago was to ensure that we receive a decent amount for the player after we settle what we owe to Huddersfield Town which is a basic £4m plus 20% of any future add-on.

We can then expect to come out with somewhere around £5m, plus a saving of £2m per year on salary.

I'm afraid to say we can no longer turn down this kind of money.

The worry is now that we will struggle for consistency given that Rhodes goals have pretty much singlehandedly kept us in the Championship for 2 years running.

Who will step up and become our 25 goal a season striker?

Luke Varney?

Chris Brown?

I believe we are now entering the choppy waters of sh*t creek and we've just lost our paddle.

Don't think we will sell Rhodes now but if we did then surely we would have to use a fair proportion of that money to reduce our debts and help control our continuing losses.

Or are those losses simply going to disappear in the future and they will never effect us???

I'd love to live in your world but in the REAL WORLD - debts (loans) incurred normally have to be re-paid.

And yes, I realise that the "wonderful" Venkys (really lovely, honest, truthful people) have "loaned us" the money (interest free) but a LOAN (by its very definition) means that the person who pays out the money fully expects to be REPAID at some point in the future.

Its funny because the owners of Blackpool (the Oystons) did exactly the same thing as the Venkys over the last 10 years - and guess what, they have now pulled out the £32m they "LOANED" the club (interest free) and looked whats happened there - Blackpool football club can no longer function or compete as a football club at championship level and the whole club is in complete meltdown.

And bear in mind we already owe two and a half times the money to the Venkys that Blackpool owed the Oystons - and that figures rises day by day.

Its about time fans like you woke up to the REALITY of our dire financial situation instead of pretending it dosent exist or that it will never effect us.

If the venkys didn't expect the £70-80m to be paid back then why have they "loaned" it to us - they could just as easily have either GIVEN it to us or used that money as sponsorship for us - which would have been another way they could have channelled that money to us (and is how Man Citys owners are channelling their money to them).

They have done it as a "loan" because that is exactly what it is - money that our club BRFC will have to repay to them.

J.C - Rishton

If you say he will be sold we will take it as a definite then.

If Rhodes carries on in this rich vein of form he'll soon make Danny Murphy look like a bargain!

If what you say is true, what is your answer ?
When are they going to pull the plug ? If what you believe is true why don't they pull the plug now rather than continue to put money in ?
The truth is none of us know what Venkys will do or what their intentions are so let's all try to enjoy it rather all this doom and gloom.

Disappointing result against Norwich. Williamson is changing my mind about offering him a new contract. He's certainly working hard for the team.

It would take £20m to prise Rhodes loose and I do not know if Hull will commit to that spending. If winning promotion, in Venkys mind, is based on Rhodes staying and he goes that might persuade Venkys to sell Blackburn Rovers. I admit I am torn between which of those outcomes I'd prefer.

FFP limits the amount owners can invest. it does not stop funds raised from transfers being re-invested.

"FFP limits the amount owners can invest. it does not stop funds raised from transfers being re-invested."

Unfortunately you're wrong.

FFP aims to reduce the levels of losses being incurred at football clubs and, over time, establish a league of financially self-sustaining professional football clubs. To that extent we can no longer move forward carrying a loss level above £3m. Last season we lost £36.5m and have since lost a further £8m in parachute payments and also had to take the hit on contract cancellations running upwards of £3m, whilst still carrying a wage bill of over £25m. We can therefore expect a similar figure in the loss column when the accounts are released. This means any money received will be channelled into reducing the annual loss.

Rhodes is worth £8m to £10m at best I'm afraid.

its alright putting it down to bad decision making by the ref !! we at times are just too fragile at the back and we need to bolster it up "a good team will kill off a team when they take such an early lead as we did. we apart from the defensive frailties have not got that ruthlessness in attack. we need it sorted or we will have yet another fruitless season.

To sell Jordan for £8 million would be a sign that Venky's no longer wish to fund Rovers and therefore they should sell the club to people who have the best of intensions. Do not sell Jordan he is priceless, worth at least £15 million

Erm, how about Rudy Gestede? You know, seeing as how he is currently Rovers' in-form striker, and has been since the end of March.

Strikers are always in demand and come and go like the tide. If Rhodes goes it has to be for the right money - but we will be OK as Chris Brown can come in and play just as well alongside Gestede as Rhodes has been (if not better)...
