Accrington Stanley offer ticket deal to neighbours

Lancashire Telegraph: Accrington Stanley manager James Beattie Accrington Stanley manager James Beattie

ACCRINGTON Stanley are offering a special flexi-ticket deal next week in an attempt to encourage Blackburn Rovers and Burnley fans to watch more matches at the Store First Stadium.

Stanley host Rovers in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday before entertaining Burnley three days later. A ticket for either of those games costs £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and £5 for under 17s.

However, on each of those two matchdays, the Reds will also be selling flexi-tickets for the 2014/15 season at a reduced price. The flexi-ticket allows fans to attend 10 League Two matches of their choice and the price will be reduced from £150 to £135 for anyone purchasing on the day of either the Rovers or Burnley matches.

The deal is also on offer to Stanley fans but has been timed in a bid to attract any Rovers or Burnley supporters who may be visiting the Store First Stadium.

“We don’t want to take people away from their first club but if we can be their second club, if their team are away or aren’t playing they can come along on a Saturday afternoon,” said Stanley chairman Peter Marsden. “The flexi-tickets work out at £13.50 a game – cheaper than the £20 matchday price.”

Stanley have already sold close to 500 season tickets and previously announced that they are giving free season tickets to every year six pupil in Hyndburn. The Reds, who travel to Nelson tomorrow, finished 15th last term despite a disastrous start, and have a settled squad for the new season.

“It is all about the start to the season and if we can get 200 or 300 extra people through the gates, it might not seem a lot but to us it makes a big difference,” Marsden said. “We’ve got quite a few players already signed on – some of them young players who we’re hoping will really come through this year.”

It might have been a goer if Stanley hadn't damaged already any good will with Clarets and Rovers fans by charging £15 for a pre-season friendly!

Missed a trick I'm afraid Accrington.

I think you'll find that the price of these two games was agreed between both clubs & not just plucked out of the air by Stanley.
Although having two in a few days at that price I think did affect the attendance for the Rovers game both matches proved to be value for money with the standard of football on show.
We have another at home this Friday v Chorley which is only £5 admission, £3 concessions & £1 for accompanied under 12's - can't say fairer than that IMHO
