Kevin Gallacher column: McCormack deal highlights value of star Rhodes

Lancashire Telegraph: Jordan Rhodes Jordan Rhodes

ROSS McCormack going to Fulham for £11m really sets the benchmark for Blackburn Rovers if they ever have to sell Jordan Rhodes.

Don’t get me wrong, if Jordan or Ross were not British I think you could get them for around £5m.

But British players come at a premium, especially ones who guarantee you 20 goals in the Championship, and should a bid ever come in for Jordan, Blackburn should be looking for £11-12m because that’s what Ross has gone for.

Luckily there does not appear to have been a bid for Jordan and let’s hope that remains the case.

But I still don’t understand speculation that he wants a new contract.

He signed a five-year deal when he joined the club and it still has three years to run.

He should fulfil that until at least the final 18 months, when negotiations should start about a new one.

But in this day and age you can have a long time left on your contract and agents will be batting away at clubs asking for their client to be given a new deal for X amount of money.

Jordan has stated he’s happy at Blackburn and it’s only if he ever becomes unhappy that they may look to move him on.

But even then he’s going to have an £11-£12m price tag around his neck and it will be up to someone to pay that.

Here’s hoping that never happens and he scores another 20 goals plus for Blackburn this season.

Meanwhile, I’m running my G8 Soccer School behind Salesbury Memorial Hall on August 18-22 and August 25-29, from 9.30am and 3.30pm each day for children aged 8-13.

We have an early bird offer which runs out after the World Cup final on Sunday.

Yes McCormack has really set the standard now. Don't let him go for anything less than that. Hopefully that will keep the wolves at bay for a bit longer.
An £11million price tag plus his wages should put all but the top clubs off.

I think Venkey should give a strong message now - Jordan Rhodes is not for sale.

Jordan already said that he want to move to top league with Blackburn Rovers. So agents and Media should respect for one more season.

I'd be much happier if the club came out again and reinforced that JR is not for sale. The present silence is deafening!

Look at the situation with Liverpool when they stressed that Suarez was not for sale a few months ago and what is happening now; however, Liverpool could have changed their mind since the World Cup biting incident but they are parting with their star striker.

Going back to Jordan Rhodes, he is good at scoring goals but lacks the pace at the front. Do not get me wrong, I like Jordan and he has been good for the Rovers but I would rate Tom Cairney and Craig Conway as far much better players than Jordan. And Jordan certainly is not worth £11 million and should Rovers sell him, they should be looking at a bit more than that as they have to pay Huddersfield a percentage, too!

At the end of the day its all paper talk, probably started by his agent to get him a better deal, and a cut for himself of course.

On that scale he's worth £15 million which to be honest is ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as £11 million for McCormack.

If McCormack is worth 11million the Rhodes is worth more as he has consitantly scored for the past 4 or 5 seasons whereas McCormack has only for the last two. Rhodes is played to score goals. he does his job. Id be happy if he didnt do anything every game other than score the winner.
