Doncaster striker Chris Brown has Blackburn Rovers medical

DONCASTER striker Chris Brown is undergoing a medical ahead of a proposed move to Blackburn Rovers.

And should the 29-year-old come through the tests he is set to become Rovers’ first signing of the summer.

Brown is available on a free transfer after Doncaster were relegated from the Championship.

The 6ft 3in targetman, who scored nine goals in 43 games last season on his way to being named Donny's player of the year, has 12 months left on his contract.

But it is believed Brown will be allowed to leave for nothing as his contract contains a relegation clause.

Doncaster boss Paul Dickov is resigned to losing his star man.

Dickov, a former Rovers striker, said: “I think a big part of Chris would want to stay but the lure of Championship football is too much for him. We all would love him to stay.

“But I don’t think the fans and staff at the club who saw him last season would begrudge him the move – and a decent move at this stage of his career. He was outstanding for us last season.”

Rovers yesterday made space in their squad for Brown by agreeing to cancel David Goodwillie’s contract.

The Scotland international forward had 12 months remaining on the four-year deal he signed after then Ewood Park boss Steve Kean paid a reported £2.8m for his services to Dundee United in August 2011.

But Goodwillie is now free to find a new club after he came to a financial settlement with Rovers.

The 25-year-old is attracting interest from Scottish Premiership duo Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

Goodwillie still has admirers north of the border despite a disappointing three-year spell at Rovers.

The former Scottish Young Player of the Year scored five goals in 34 appearances for the club and spent time on loan at Crystal Palace, Dundee United and Blackpool.

Goodwillie was one of six players placed on the transfer list by Rovers last month along with Dickson Etuhu, Leon Best, DJ Campbell, Jordan Slew and Alex Marrow.

Meanwhile, Campbell has had his bail put back until the end of July.

The striker was one of six men arrested in December by the National Crime Agency (NCA) as part of a probe into alleged spot-fixing in football. Campbell was released on bail until April 8 without charge.

But on April 3, while Campbell was on loan at Millwall, the NCA released a statement confirming it had rearrested the six original suspects based on new evidence along with a further seven footballers aged between 18 and 30 who play for clubs based in the north west of England.

A further NCA statement on April 4 confirmed that the 13 individuals, who were interviewed at police stations across the country, had been bailed until the end of this month.

But Campbell’s bail has now been put back until late July.

I don't see why we are spending £10 000 a week on a player who is going to be a reserve to Rhodes and Gestede, and probably behind Luke Varney as well. We might as well have kept Goodwillie or not put Slew on the transfer list because neither of them would have been on higher wages, are a lot younger and probably wouldn't contribute any less than Brown will this season.

Seems a bit too high but its less than Goodwillie was on. Are we still going to be taking Varney now ?

There hasn't been any news on Varney, but the last we heard was that he would be signing and there hasn't been anything official to say otherwise as of yet. Although if it falls through I won't exactly be crying myself to sleep every night. I just think we should use the younger players we already have in the squad rather than wasting money on older players whose contribution will be minimal barring injuries to both Gestede and Rhodes at the same time. Dean Rittenberg and Jordan Preston are only young but maybe they could be given a chance in pre-season and see what level they are at before we spend £10 000 a week on a reserve.

How can you say what he will or won't contribute this season? How do you know Rhodes or Gestede won't get injured in the first game of the season? He was Doncasters undisputed player of the season so he obviously stood out playing at this level. I very much doubt he's going to be here to make up the numbers like goodwillie and slew were. Gestede was a bench warmer until he signed for us and every Leeds fan I've spoken to has said we are welcome to Varney.

Welcome to the real ROVERS, Even at the age of 29 Chris Brown is a quality player in this level and for GB, he will fit into the bill(tall + proved striker) also. Get rid of four striker (Best, Campbell, Goodwillie, Slew) and we add two(Brown and Varney), Who got experience and quality in this same player pool. Now Two additional quality Defenders will balance the team.

Very eager to see our young group of players(Rhods,Gested
e,Conway,Cainey,King
,Lowe,Marshy,Spurr,H
anley)
playing like Cosata Rica model game, who trash Uruguay and Italy. We need to do same with Cardiff to start the season and steady the game tone at the start.
Welcome All. Any news with Rochina !!!!!

Bowyer's strength is spotting good players and if Rhodes or Rudy get injured what do we do - throw youngsters into the line of fire? Slew is young but is not good enough at the moment for what we need. In a few years time he might be but we need a strong squad now.

Varney is a player GB likes for his attitude and is a squad player. If Bowyer thinks he can do a job that is good enough for me.

Its a pity you yourself haven't had a medical, your rants on here show that you are in need of some kind of medication. Look up the word "progress" and its meaning then perhaps you might find that is what is happening at Ewood. G.B. has had to rebuild a team virtually from scratch with very limited funds and FFP looming large. Compare that to the previous years of miss management. Nobody will forget or forgive Venky's for their destruction of this great club, but to lay any blame on G.B. is totally out of order. He has done more for this club than anybody during the last year, yes he has made mistakes, haven't we all? Its time to get behind him and his team and really support them and give it a real go for promotion this coming season, Out with the Dangerous Dave's of this world.

Dave hates progress at Ewood because it takes him further away from his deluded fan ownership dream of sending Rovers into administration so he can buy it back for a sack of spuds... Both Goodwillie and Slew are tainted by the Kean era, they have no future at Ewood and have the sense to see it.

Brown is a totally different player to these two from what I have seen, the fact that if he signs he will be playing with better players than at his previous teams may make him a better player, who knows.

Varney again is a totally different player, coming more from a right midfield position rather than a target man.

In other words they both give us options to change games.

Around £10k per week looks to be the going rate for a reasonable Championship player, if you want to progress you need to be paying at least the going rate to attract the right player.

GB clearly has a strategy, he wants players that fit into the squad ethos, that have the right temperament to fit in on match days as and when required, I suspect he does an awful lot of research on a players mental strength as he does on their skill and capability on the pitch before he even makes an approach.

And we don't usually find out who he is after until they sign on the dotted line, the only reason we know about Brown is that Doncaster have blabbed to cover their own backs.

Brown might be cover for Gestede and Rhodes, but if we loose one or both to injury or loss of form how many will be criticising Bowyer if he hadn't made the move to strengthen?

We might as well have kept Goodwillie or not put Slew on the transfer list because neither of them would have been on higher wages, are a lot younger and probably wouldn't contribute any less than Brown will this season.[/p][/quote]Both Goodwillie and Slew are tainted by the Kean era, they have no future at Ewood and have the sense to see it. Brown might be cover for Gestede and Rhodes, but if we loose one or both to injury or loss of form how many will be criticising Bowyer if he hadn't made the move to strengthen? owd nick

He's a different type of player, big, strong and can knock defenders about a bit. Rhodes couldn't do that but should benefit enormously with a player like that alongside him. We need good cover and Brown is the type of player you need in this division. I don't think he'll be replacing anybody but Bowyer will be able to change things around and rotate the strikers when neccessary. I think that's why he's keen on him.

I really hope this deal goes through, especially if he proves to be as effective as the last freebie we had off Doncaster. I don't think for one minute that Brown will be happy sitting on the bench though, I expect him to be pushing Rhodes and Gestede from day one. What's even more interesting is the option he'll give us that no other Championship club has (I think). If defences are proving difficult to break down we can throw Brown on for Rhodes and let Conway and Marshall whip balls in for him and Rudy. One is 6'4" and the other is 6'3", one of them is bound to score!

No, it's peppering the oppositions penalty area with crosses for the big men to try and get their heads on the end of it. If I'd said we could let Kilgallon and Hanley blast it up field from our own half, that would be hoofball. But I didn't.

He exhibits a pervasive pattern of self-defeating behaviour by being drawn to situations in which he will suffer while preventing others from helping him. He is gratified by degradation and looks forward to a daily beating from his Claret superiors who get him all hot and bothered and cause him to spend his days creating more and more on-line persona's within which he seeks to hide his true miserable and warped self.

A very sad creature who has nothing left to live for. Each time he thinks back to the 9th of March 2014 he vomits uncontrollably, each time he recalls the Clarets securing promotion to the Premier League he soils himself.

Don't do anything silly Barry, it's only a game in the end.
