Cameron Dummigan can make Clarets impression
DEVELOPMENT squad coach Andy Farrell hopes teenager Cameron Dummigan can progress to Burnley’s first team, after the second year scholar signed his first professional contract.
The Northern Ireland Under 19 international, who is only 17, this week put pen to paper on a two-year contract. Dummigan celebrated with a fine goal against Manchester City in the Under 21 Premier League Cup semi final.
And while Burnley went on to lose a well contested game 3-2, Farrell believes Dummigan showed signs of a promising future.
“He looked the part in the game. He is a class act with a Rolls Royce engine - he glides across the surface,” said Farrell.
“A couple of times in the first half he went past two or three players like they were stood still. He was excellent in the air, his one-on-ones were good.”
Farrell acknowledged there are similarities with Kieran Trippier in Dummigan’s style of play.
“I see much of the same in him, haring up that side of that pitch.
“He is good with the ball, his crossing, distribution and combination play are all good.
“I look forward to seeing him in a few years’ time hopefully making it into our first team.”
