Team news: Blackburn Rovers v Birmingham City

RUBEN Rochina will make his first start for Blackburn Rovers since the opening day of the season in their final game of 2013 at home to Birmingham City this afternoon.

The Spaniard, now fully recovered from the dislocated shoulder that he suffered in the curtain raiser at Derby County on August 4, takes the place of Rudy Gestede.

Rochina is one of two changes to the team that started the Boxing Day 0-0 home draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Chris Taylor, who was stretchered off against Wednesday after a painful fall, is replaced be Lee Williamson.

Taylor is, however, fit enough for a place on a substitutes bench which does not feature the injured David Dunn (hamstring), Josh King (back) and Todd Kane (thigh).

Birmingham, who are on an eight-match unbeaten run, make one enforced change to the side that started their 0-0 draw at Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day.

Andy Shinnie is in for suspended top-scorer Jesse Lingard.

Rovers are unbeaten in four games and victory today could move them within a point of the play-off places.

Rovers: Eastwood, Henley, Dann, Hanley, Spurr, Lowe, Williamson, Cairney, Rochina, Marshall, Rhodes. Subs: Kean, Kilgallon, Campbell, Olsson, Taylor, Judge, Gestede.

Birmingham: Randolph, Caddis, Bartley, Burn, Robinson, Adeyemi, Lee, Burke, Shinnie, Novak, Zigic. Subs: Doyle, Mullins, Reilly, Brown, Gray, Ferguson, Lovenkrands.

We have a harsh truth to face. The prospects of qualifying for the play-offs are at best a long shot. I couldn’t make the match to-day but the result is a hammer blow. At the risk of stating the obvious, lack of consistency is going to cost Rovers big -time.

You have to feel for JR. His loyalty to the club, so far, is to be commended. But that loyalty must surely be stretched to almost breaking point. Who could blame him if he decided to ‘move on’.

Let us hope the New Year brings a change of fortune for the club, team, and fans.

Joint 2nd spot, 13 points ahead of B@stards FC.

The pain for you just gets worse. Keep crying inside and punching the walls no dad.
Haha "joint second" - Forget goal difference, why don't you see if the Football League will simply add a new automatic promotion spot for "joint second" (3rd to the rest of us).

The only good news from today is the predicted post-Christmas Burnley slide down the table continues! Relegation battle before the end of the season yet again!? :-D
No player will want to move there in jan. Dyche out by feb.
Ahhhh didums, did I upset you with my post that has been removed?

The "SLIDE" you speak of means one point further in front of you no dads. So it was actually a productive day!

I'm sure Malky Mackay will be hot footing it up to East Lancs after seeing the no dads performance on the football league show tonight.
I see bubble pop fc are down to third. The slump continues. 2 wins in 12. Its a good job you won promotion on Christmas Day.
Mega.

Clearly you're mugging yourself off that easily, nobody else needs to.
You're clutching at straws there pal. When you get your own house in order then maybe you can comment on other peoples.

Burnley - a good point gained and a clean sheet at a very tough place to go.

No dads - a total and utter embarrassment, 0-3 down at half time and a striker who is sick of trying his best and getting nowhere with No dads FC.

13 points adrift and a New Year's Day hiding at dirty Leeds to look forward to.

What happened today will just re-enforce Rhodes's decision to leave. He is clearly the only one putting effort in. He is a quality player and he must be FCUKED off big time at constantly having nothing to show for his efforts because he's surrounded by league 1 cheapo rejects punching above their weight.

I really hope he goes. Good luck to the lad.
You mean the "League 1 cheapo rejects" in the top half of the championship?

Rhodes is going nowhere, you nitwits say this every transfer window and end up red faced.

You lot, as usual at this time of year, are giving points away like Christmas presents and by the end of the season neither of our teams will be getting promoted.
Giving points away yet still sitting outside an automatic promotion spot on goal difference, 13 whole points ahead of the no dads.

Oh yes, it's all crashing down around us. It's a good job things are going swimmingly well for you..............oh, hang on a minute......!

Half way through the season and nearer the top than the bottom. We overtake Burnley in March and secure the playoffs by April.

Today's result is only a hammer blow for those who carry the daft notion we are capable of making the play offs. We are halfway thru the season, mid table is the best we will finish. Too inconsistent. Too reliant on Rhodes too, if he is sold or out injured then where will the goals come from? You're right he couldn't do any more, 15 goals in a mediocre side is very good. Afraid Bowyer isn't up to the task of getting us up the league

Hope you washed your hands before and after using the care home lap top. I know that your dementia riddled mind might struggle with this but it's not Venkys we love , it's Blackburn Rovers. Remember them?

We need a proper manager. Why spend 8 mil on one player then cheap out on the manager? Weve had coach after coach since venkys sacked allerdyce.
Malky McKay and his technical advisor spent £50m in the last transfer window and look where they are now. Next you'll be asking for Big Sam back though it's obviously Venkys fault that West Ham are going to be relegated.
