Rovers boss: Star isn't Dunn yet
BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has hailed the enduring quality of David Dunn.
The evergreen midfielder continued his fantastic form since returning from a two-month injury lay-off in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Yeovil Town at a wet and windy Huish Park.
Dunn, who turns 34 on Friday, was a constant threat with his forceful running and intelligent passing in his role behind lone striker Jordan Rhodes.
And with better finishing he would have made it two goals in two games following his decisive strike in the 3-2 home victory over Millwall one week earlier.
Bowyer was delighted by Dunn’s display.
He said: “Dunny’s got quality that I don’t think many in the division can match.
“He should have had a hat-trick in the first half – he was a little bit disappointed with that – but his running set up the goal.
“I thought Adam Henley did magnificently for it too.”
Top scorer Rhodes put the finishing touch to terrific approach play by Henley and Dunn to earn Rovers just their second away success of the season.
Rhodes, who now has 13 goals for the campaign, said: “We’ve not been fantastic on the road this season but especially on days like that when it’s a bit blustery and the conditions aren’t great to play football, you have to dig in and put in a real gritty away performance. At times we did that.
“To to come off with one more goal than the opposition – that’s what it’s all about as that’s what you apply yourself all week to do.”
Rovers, who are now unbeaten in three games, wasted a string of chances in a one-sided first half.
But after Rhodes notched what proved to be the winner, they had to ride their luck before securing back-to-back away clean sheets for the first time since April 2010.
Bowyer, whose side drew 0-0 at QPR earlier this month, was shocked by the statistic.
He said: “I didn’t realise it was that long so it shows you just how important it is.
“Now we have to dust ourselves down and get ourselves ready for a big game at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day.”
