Dyche: I won't buy big and risk the Clarets

Lancashire Telegraph: Sean Dyche Sean Dyche

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche said he would not be prepared to put the club at risk by demanding a big January transfer budget.

The Clarets are looking to strengthen their squad in the new year and reinforce their challenge at the top end of the table.

The board have said some funds for January signings have been set aside for Dyche, leftm who has yet to spend a penny on transfer fees in over 12 months in charge. They have also offered assurances that they have no wish to sell any of their top players in the next window - including top scorer Danny Ings, who is reported to have attracted interest from Liverpool and Celtic.

But Dyche stressed he would not wish to spend beyond the club’s means.

“As manager it’s not just managing the team, I’m a custodian of the club and I think it’s important. I wouldn’t want to put the club in any jeopardy by demanding this or that financially. I work with the board as I did at Watford to make sure we’re aligned,” said the Clarets chief.

“Would it (money) be helpful, yes. Do you have to have it, no you don’t, but it is very helpful. It’s just the modern game and how it works.

“I don’t think it’s a case of nothing at all but there isn’t going to be big figures or big signings. The club can’t do that.

“There’s a reality within what the game offers and that is finance helps - there’s no two ways about it - but it doesn’t solve everything, it doesn’t cure everything, it doesn’t make it all work. You only have to look down the division at some of the teams who are not going maybe as strongly as what the expectation was.

“They’ve got massive wage bills and very good players and it’s just galvanising that group, giving them the framework to work from in my opinion and I think we’ve done that well.

“There’s still a long way to go in our own expectations but it starts with delivering that every week. We’ve done that well.”

Of the impact the Financial Fair Play rule (FFP), which puts constraints on a club’s spending, will have Dyche said: “FFP could be interesting for some clubs.

“We’re already cutting the cloth accordingly, but we’re still looking to do things (signings).

“There’s no excuse within it, it’s just a reality of our club and what we financially want to achieve which is balance it and make sure it’s here for another 130 years. I think that’s right.

“It’s part of what it is, football meets reality.”

Absolutely agree!!! Dyche is the most decent, honest man I've heard in football for a long time and I sincerely hope we get promoted simply to keep him. I honestly believe we will keep all our players during January (at least the ones we want to keep) and that Sean the Man will do his utmost to make the dream come true. He really does talk a lot of sense.
As for the vacant managers post at Watford, who in their right mind would return to a club that treated them so badly? Dyche was the best thing that had happened to Watford in a long time and they treated him with utter contempt, just to bring in a foreign manager with a bigger name (not to disrespect Zola, he was a truly great player and a gentleman). Sean must be having a little laugh to himself at the moment.
As for the deluded ones coming on here yet again with your absolute gibberish about what is really just your wish list, take a look at what is happening at your own club and ask yourself this: Who's situation would I rather be in just now? Would I rather my club be battling it out at the top of the league with just 2 (two) defeats all season and the best goal difference by quite a stretch? Would I prefer us to have a manager who actually knows what he is doing and exactly what he wants? Would I want to be watching a team who would run through walls for the boss? Would I like very much for my club to be reasonably financially sound and ready to take on FFP? Would I like my team to have a bad run that includes only 1 defeat in a 7 game period that has included some extremely tough fixtures?
You know, the idea of the jealous ones coming on here and attempting (with abysmal failure) to make fun of our club actually makes me smile. If I have discovered one thing about some of the deluded ones recently it is that they seem to have no sense of irony whatsoever. Whoever heard of anyone trying to make fun of anyone or anything from a point of weakness? So just continue with your inane ramblings if it makes you feel better, I for one will completely ignore it all and simply bask in the sunshine of our fantastic season so far.
Incidentally, I will consider replies to the more sensible Rovers who actually talk about A: Football and B: Facts not wish lists.

I admire Dyche for his straight talking and good old fashioned work ethic - especially how he has got what is an underdog squad so fit and working well. No one could blame him if he got an offer from another club that showed ambition - remember Moses anyone?

Another day another factual faux-pas from FakeIngDick, to put you out of your misery Craig Davies turned down Wolves as he wants to stay in the Championship, he is holding out for a move to Burnley in January apparently.

You really are a no-nothing horse-whisperer aren't you.

Not entirely sure I would want Davies. He's had a few clubs and any player who can't break into the current Bolton team probably leaves a lot to be desired.
I see that the usual rabble are on here again making fun (???) of us. I've been trying to think of all the big name signings they have made in the last 12 months or so and, you know, I can't really think of any. DJ Campbell maybe? Oh no, they seem to be without his services for the moment for some reason.
The fact of the matter is we DO need some cover and it is most important that this happens. The player(s) we bring in don't have to be over paid top names, just one or two journeymen who can step up when we get injuries or suspensions. Our 1st team IS good enough to gain promotion as it is as good as any club out there (better than most, obviously), we're just a bit thin on the ground that's all. We certainly don't need over priced big names coming in for a pension fund, unlike some other teams not a million miles from us.

A "Little lightweight club" that is taking the Championship by storm and making you cry into your Pot Noodle on a daily basis, isn't that right Mungo?

Once again the rodent from Shadsworth is trying his best to invent a world of make-believe and fairy-tales to protect himself from the horror of the reality that is Burnley's fantastic season and Blackburn's continued decline into obscurity and imminent financial meltdown...

a world where Jack Walker skips gleefully through the streets of Blackburn naked and ej@culating pound coins to the delight of the cheering masses...

a world where Shadsworth is a normal functioning community without rat infestations, substance abusers, and defecating stray dogs...

a world where Blackburn Rovers are competing with the cream of English and European football, instead of disgracing themselves and their country with shambolic in-fighting and match-fixing allegations.

a world where Venky's opted out of buying Blackburn Rovers and were never heard from again, while Saudi Billionaires pumped in the cash to bring back the good times.

a world where Blackburn Rovers are a Premier League club.

He then wakes up with a sticky mess on his SuperTed duvet and realises that world exists only in his own warped odious mind and as a result he shamelessly proceeds to force it on us all in the hope that one day it might just come true.

It's a shame for poor old Mungo, he suffers from a terrible affliction and we should pity him.

Are you not embarrassed that a small club like Burnley are so far ahead of Blackburn in points, that Burnley are now OFFICIALLY THE BEST CLUB IN LANCASHIRE, and Blackburn are possibly the worst.

I guess we can leave you to bash one out at your memories of the mid 1990's when Blackburn's board of directors ruthlessly robbed a senile old man of his life savings in order to buy you a trophy.

If you read my post, nowhere do I defend our Board of Directors. I agree they are straight out of Billy Smart's big top - which is where you and me differ, as I don't suffer from delusions of grandeur.

I merely point out that the BFC board are once again displaying a complete lack of ambition, which must be very frustrating for the decent, sensible Dingle fans out there. If I remember rightly you were relegated by 1 single point - had your Board given Moses a relatively paltry (not Poultry :-)) £3-4M kitty, then I'm sure you would've retained his services and Premiership survival, followed by who knows what?

And so the similarities run similar for poor old Mr. Dyche, and as much as I hate to admit it, he has done a fantastic job given what he has got - Indeed BFC were one of the Bookies favourite for relegation before the season kicked off (and they rarely get these things wrong).

All I'll say is good luck, enjoy your moment in the sun - you deserve it, but good luck in keeping hold of Dyche if a club with ambition come in for him, oh and try not to be too bitter about it when he does go.

Fair comment and agree that Coyle was not backed as had we done I think he would have stayed and we would have had a second season in the prem. All water under the bridge now and as things stand lots to look forward to but of course things will change, that's how we survive.

Actually you have hit on some fair points there, so credit where it's due.

Some quick pointers for you - our directors are not multi-billionaires and have put into the club an estimated £4 million between them to keep the club afloat this financial year, so you say they have a lack of ambition, and I say they just don't have the cash - it is simple economics, we cannot spend what we don't actually have.

Judas Coyle was always going to Bolton, regardless of money available for transfers - he had already lined up the services of Jack Wilshere, Vladimir Weiss and Daniel Sturridge to come to Burnley, but took them to Bolton instead - there WAS money available and Brian Laws spent in excess of £3 million when he arrived.

You say it's frustrating, but most Burnley fans understand the lack of cash at the club - the facts are in order for us to comply with the FFP rules we have to cut costs, something that Blackburn's owners are just burying their heads in the sand about and hoping it will go away - it won't you ARE going to have a transfer embargo and you WILL have to sell your highest earning players and that DOES include Jordan Rhodes.

You lot can keep splashing the cash on mediocre, League One players like Marrow, Judge, Marshall, Taylor etc and we will keep finding diamonds and polishing them into top class players - that is the way of a small provincial club without any kind of financial comfort blanket has survived in the higher leagues since time immemorial, something you boys used to know about before Senile Jack intervened in the late 80's and gave you your cash-led arrogance..

All I'll say is good luck, enjoy your moment in the sun - you deserve it, but good luck in keeping hold of Dyche if a club with ambition come in for him, oh and try not to be too bitter about it when he does go.[/p][/quote]Actually you have hit on some fair points there, so credit where it's due. I admire Dyche for his straight talking and good old fashioned work ethic - especially how he has got what is an underdog squad so fit and working well. No one could blame him if he got an offer from another club that showed ambition - remember Moses anyone?
And yet look where we are in the table compared to you gimps - and doesn't that really get to those parts of a Blackburn fan that not even horse-**** can reach?

Are you seriously saying that you would prefer YOUR board of directors than OURS?

Some good points but the lack of ambition I think is a bit wide of the mark. The board, unfortunately have to prepare for the dreaded FFP (am I the only one who thinks it's a dreadful idea, it will kill grass roots football I am certain) and they are doing what they have to do. I wish it were different but that's not our call.
The relegation by 1 point always gets me. One win from a bunch of home games we should have won and we would have been home and dry. The lack of ambition there was simply going for the cheap option of that clown Laws (our equivalent of Kean) rather than spending on players. This fool couldn't even motivate the players for the derby. He has, though, been proved yet again recently to be useless as a manager at Scunthorpe. I think his days as a manager are now over.
We don't need to spend a fortune on players in January, just enough to make the squad a little bigger for emergencies.

This 'we got relegated from the premier league by one point' is a myth.
We needed 5 points to catch west ham who had 20+ goals better goal difference. Or 6 points to catch wigan on similar goal difference. The two '6 pointer' defeats to wigan proved to be our down fall.

Point taken (or rather 6 points). Either way we lost home games to Rovers, Wigan and Wolves amongst others, all winnable games and this is where we lost out. Funnily enough our record against the top clubs was actually rather good, or at least not bad. Anyway, that's all might have beens.
