Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer keen on Tom Cairney deal

Lancashire Telegraph: Tom Cairney Tom Cairney

BLACKBURN Rovers are in ongoing talks with Hull City over the future of loan star Tom Cairney with Gary Bowyer keen to keep the midfielder at the club on a permanent basis.

Rovers fans are also desperate for Cairney to stay at Ewood Park after his six-month deal runs out next month.

Cairney, pictured below, is out of contract in the summer providing Rovers with the chance to strike a deal with the midfielder when the transfer window opens next month, while they could also extend his loan stay at Ewood.

And Bowyer admits the 22-year-old is a key part of his Ewood plans with the Rovers boss having already spoken with his Hull counterpart Steve Bruce on the midfielder’s future.

Bowyer said: “I’m constantly on the phone to Mr Bruce. He’s a top, top manager and a top bloke.

“He’s offered me some good advice so I speak to him about that as well but obviously Tom comes into the conversation.

“It’s something that is ongoing between the club and Hull City.

“We’re working very hard to keep him here.

“He’s a quality player – we knew that when we were bringing in him. We just hope we can keep hold of him.

“That’s out of our hands in one sense, with Hull City, but I know the lad loves it here. He just wants to play football.

“He’s got great technical ability, he’s got to score a few more goals but he’s trying to do that.”

It will be a shame if we lose him. He's been top drawer most of the time. If only we would play him in his best position and get the best out of him.

Play him centre mid with Lowe and that's one area of the pitch sorted, after 5 years of inadequacy.

SWAP HIM FOR LEON BEST, Bruce obviously doesn't rate Cairney and he might be able to motivate a premiership class striker.

More like. Premier class dick-head. I think Bruce has a bit more sense than to take Best off our hands. Still we can only hope.

And throw in Etuhu to seal the deal. Hull owe us a favour for saving them from the wasted wages of Campbell.
