MORTEN Gamst Pedersen could bring nine years at Blackburn Rovers to an end as he holds talks over his Ewood Park future.

Pedersen, who joined Rovers in 2004, travelled with the squad to Pride Park for their 1-1 draw at Derby County on Sunday but missed out on a place on the bench.

The Norwegian is now considering whether he has any future at the club and has confirmed that he is holding talks with Rovers about the situation.

The club are eager to reduce their wage bill before the transfer window closes on September 2 and could be willing to reach an agreement to release Pedersen from the final year of his contract at Ewood Park.

Pedersen had hoped to force his way back into first-team contention this season, having stressed his commitment to the club in the summer.

He netted a free kick in the pre-season friendly at Rochdale but has fallen down the pecking order following a host of midfield signings and now looks to have his work cut out to secure regular football at Ewood.

Rovers still have a larger squad than they would like and others who remain surplus to requirements include Bradley Orr and Mauro Formica, with settlements possible if new clubs cannot be found.

Gael Givet was named on the bench at Derby but would also be allowed to leave.

Rovers bolstered their centre back options yesterday when they confirmed the addition of Yann Songo’o on a two-year contract.

The 21-year-old Cameroonian still requires international clearance to feature in tomorrow night’s League Cup first round tie at Carlisle, but became Rovers’ 11th signing of the summer after impressing on trial.
