THE future of Blackburn Rovers forward David Goodwillie remains uncertain, with Dundee United now confirming that they have approached Rovers about the possibility of taking the forward back to Tannadice on loan next season.

Goodwillie joined Rovers from Dundee United for an initial fee of £2m in 2011 but has struggled for regular football at Ewood Park and is also now interesting Hearts, Aberdeen and an unamed Championship club.

The Scot is understood to be keen for regular first-team football next season and would be open to a move if he is not likely to get that with Rovers.

Rovers, however, may have to continue paying a portion of Goodwillie’s wages if he leaves on loan.

“It’s one where we’d love to have him back,” said Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara.

“Whether or not is it possible we will have to wait and see.

“I think there are a few clubs that will be after him but he’s one we would be interested in.

“I’ve spoken to Blackburn about the availability of getting him back on loan, so we’ll wait and see if anything materialises on that.”

Meanwhile, Rovers, Birmingham, Wigan and Ipswich have been linked with central defender Matt Kilgallon, who has been released by Sunderland.
