Accrington Stanley boss aims to surprise Port Vale
LEAM Richardson has called for his Reds to conjure a ‘coupon buster’ this weekend.
With Port Vale boasting the top scorer in England in 27-goal Tom Pope, and flying high in League Two with designs on automatic promotion, few would give struggling Accrington Stanley much chance of an upset.
But boosted by a point and clean sheet in last weekend’s goalless draw at Plymouth Argyle, and four transfer deadline day additions – three of which could play – Richardson insists they go in search of their first away win since November in confident mood.
“They’re a good team and they’ve got some good players,” he said of Vale.
“They are around the top of the league because they deserve to be there.
“We’ll be looking to build on Saturday though, and we do fancy going there and getting a result.
“I think if you look around the league at the results every week there are teams that surprise people.
“Hopefully we’ll be one of those teams (today) that gives a good account of ourselves and gets a good result.”
Stanley have already stunned Micky Adams’ men once this season, in their first home game, as goals from Padraig Amond and James Gray helped them to a 2-0 win.
Richardson hopes to use it as motivation to do the double over Vale side who can be inconsistent.
“They do give you a lot of possession at home,” the Reds boss noted.
