Rovers in crisis talks in India

BLACKBURN Rovers directors Paul Agnew and Derek Shaw were last night holding crisis talks with Venky’s in India as the club put any coaching appointments on hold.

Operations director Agnew and managing director Shaw flew out to Pune yesterday and are voicing their concerns about a range of issues at Rovers, including the role of global advisor Shebby Singh, as well as pleading for the appointment of an experienced manager.

Rovers sacked boss Henning Berg and his backroom staff on Thursday after only 57 days in charge and were set to appoint Kevin MacDonald and Judan Ali as coaches yesterday.

But adverse reaction from fans, together with the ongoing meetings in India, have made the club delay any appointments.

Reserve team coaches Gary Bowyer and Colin Hendry took training yesterday, together with senior strength and conditioning coach Chris Rush, and it will be Bowyer who takes charge for today’s Championship fixture at Barnsley.

MacDonald and Ali are now waiting for the outcome of Agnew and Shaw’s discussions with Venky’s.

Agnew yesterday told the Lancashire Telegraph that they were both keen to hold talks with Rovers’ owners about the direction of the club.

He said: “We are very concerned about the situation and there are a lot of issues that need addressing with immediate effect.”

Sources in India, however, suggested that Venky’s had called the meeting and that the duo’s own positions at the club could be in doubt.

They met the owners last night and are scheduled to hold more talks this morning before flying back to England.

The duo’s visit to India meant they missed the club’s annual general meeting yesterday morning, when Robert Coar and Karen Silk were the only directors present.

Singh was also absent, instead spending the day at Brockhall where he met with the playing squad as well as with Ali, who has been at the club recently shadowing the coaching staff and has been lined up for a role at Rovers.

Singh also held talks with MacDonald on Thursday and both coaches are now waiting for confirmation that the club will go ahead with their appointments, after they were temporarily put on hold.

It is believed that the role discussed for former Aston Villa caretaker boss MacDonald was as head coach, with suggestions that he would be given the chance to stake his claim for the manager’s job while the search for Berg’s replacement is ongoing.

Rovers are also understood to be interested in bringing Jordan Rhodes’ father Andy as goalkeeping coach. The 48-year-old is currently working in a similar role at Sheffield Wednesday.

Bobby Mimms left his job as Rovers’ goalkeeping coach on Thursday and said yesterday: “I’d like to thank the fans for their magnificent support during my time at the club.

“I have great memories of the football club and I hope they get their rightful place back in the Premier League as soon as possible.”

Academy coaches Terry McPhillips and Tony Grant are due to assist Bowyer and Hendry with the first team at Barnsley today.

MacDonald remains the bookmakers’ favourite for the manager’s job on a permanent basis, with current player Nuno Gomes still among those under consideration.

In addition, Rovers are receiving applications for the vacancy with ex-Hull boss Phil Brown yesterday confirmed that he had sent the club his CV. Former Atletico Madrid manager Gregorio Manzano is also among those interested in the job.

And Singh yesterday denied reports that co-owner Balaji Rao had already decided on the club’s new boss.

“I can safely say that is not true, I have been on the phone with him,” Singh said.

Rovers’ global advisor also confirmed that Ali had not been appointed by the club, even though he was at Brockhall yesterday.

“He’s a guest of the club, there have been no appointments,” Singh said.

“We’ve got capable people, this club is well run. Gary Bowyer has been reserve team and under 21 manager for two years, he has been at the club for eight years.

“It’s been business as usual.”

About Berg’s exit, he said: "I don't regret getting Henning here. My only regret is that it didn't work out the way we would have liked it to.”

Asked if he would now opt for a more experienced boss, Singh added: "It all depends how you term experience.”

Venky’s have made one signing though with Balaji Rao yesterday holding a press conference with Ronaldinho in India to confirm that the Brazilian superstar has joined his company Bala Entertainment and will feature in an animation film.

Ronaldinho was a target for Rovers shortly after the poultry company’s arrival at Ewood Park, but the current partnership is unrelated to the football club.

So Shaw and Agnew are going to break ranks and tell the Venkys what they do not want to hear. P45 on the way lads.
They were employed as Yes men and not even they can sit down and shut up any longer, as we are now in full blown free fall. The fact that comical Ali is around the club, no doubt at the wishes of Singh, makes Singh's position untennable.

It is obvious what we need. To chop Shabby Singh and appoint an experienced manager. However, that is not what the crackpot, tinpot Venkys want to hear is it!

Really gets more bizarre by the day. Why on earth are they looking to bring in coaching staff before the manager??? That tells us immediately we won't get a serious manager as most want to bring in their own people.

And why get rid of Berg before you have the replacement lined up? Just when we hoped they would start to do things professionally. It's so ridiculous that I might just start believing in some of those conspiracy theories soon!

If Shaw and Agnew aren't allowed to do their jobs then we really have no chance at all.

Shebby out!

Shebby you are nothing but poison to our club. Or what is left of our club. It is killing me and everyone else to carry on watching this nightmare. I did not boycott, I am certainly not encouraging one, but I have to say that for my own good, after the forest game I will not be stepping foot in Ewood until the snake is history. Season ticket will be hidden or destroyed, I've not decided which yet. Yet another unhappy New year for us with them at the helm.

At what point do the footballing authorities step in and say enough is enough. Venkys prove day in and day out they are not fit and proper owners and now public in fighting between Shaw and Singh heaps even more shame on the club, more evidence that the owners are failing to run the club in a fit and proper way. When Kean was manager we had Jack Straw as MP as well as local government political figures calling for action, where are they now as the club is in absolute chaos? We, as football supporters are being badly let down by the football governing bodies and others who could influence things for the better. Obviously they don't give a **** or we would see some intervention. I will certainly be going to Jack Straws next surgery and would urge other Rovers fans to attend and ask Jack what he can do to support his constituents

Shebby Singh is a bit of a Joker, but quite harmless in my opinion.

AGNEW is the real problem, he was around from day 1 with all the Venkys Kean and Jerome involvement. He has sat quietly in the shadows gaining promotion after promotion and is now a director. He declared war on the clubs supporters. Who was it that upset Berg at the Christmas Party??? Singh had left, leaving Agnew and Shaw. Now one of these was responsible in my opinion. Then the story was leaked into the press within 24 hours, who has such media contacts?

Whilst there is elements of team Kean still around there will still be unrest in the corridors of power.

This isn't the way we do things in Blackburn. You may recall a group of supporters 8 miles down the motorway threatening a family member of the then manager to get him out. When we sink to that level it will be time to give up. Your comments will be taken and used in the same way it was with Kean the victim and those terrible Rovers fans to blame. Here the press will see Singh as the victim receiving threats from those same terrible Rovers fans. You should work for a PR company (if you don't already).

Norman, I think the point is that what little power the fans have lies in our ability to highlight and expose the real issues. Inflamatory talk that focusses on abuse and potential violence only dilutes the strength of our position and can be used to belittle us in the sensationalist media.

You personally may not condone violence but when you opened up this moning with 'i hope you all die' you didn't exactly present yourself as a reasonable and placid bloke.

Shebby out!
Shaw and Agnew are Keans men, who is advising them??

When Kean was manager we had Jack Straw as MP as well as local government political figures calling for action, where are they now as the club is in absolute chaos? We, as football supporters are being badly let down by the football governing bodies and others who could influence things for the better. Obviously they don't give a **** or we would see some intervention. I will certainly be going to Jack Straws next surgery and would urge other Rovers fans to attend and ask Jack what he can do to support his constituents
We have already been down this road, and the answer from the authorities was that the fit and proper person test only applies to a perspective owner when taking over a club. Once someone owns a club they can effectively run the club as incompetently as they want and the FA and the government is powerless to intervene. The best that we can do is to force the Venkys to sell, because until they sell the club we will continue to be in free-fall.

I pray for the day when the Venkys have been run out of town and we have new owners.

The Walkers trust should hang there heads in shame. Anyone with a half a brain cell could have seen that a bunch of Indian chicken farmers would make terrible owners of an English professional football club, but all they were interested in doing was cashing out. They showed ZERO interest in Jacks legacy and this is where we are, in freefall and facing bankrupcy and oblivion!

You should work for a PR company (if you don't already).
im not threatening anyone. i just believe that should either of them bump into fans, especially if alcohol is involved, then they could well be in danger. feelings are running higher now than at any time i believe. would i hit them? no. im no direct action person myself. but many are. even in blackburn. and to deny this as a possibility is silly. anger is at fever pitch now. and its my opinion that anything can happen in these circumstances. it happens the world over. you could say we dont riot in britain. we are too civilised surely. but check your history and we clearly do.
and one more point... if you dont velieve me go to barnsley today and imagine shebby or judan ali standing in our end. are you telling me they would be safe?
Norman, I think the point is that what little power the fans have lies in our ability to highlight and expose the real issues. Inflamatory talk that focusses on abuse and potential violence only dilutes the strength of our position and can be used to belittle us in the sensationalist media.

You personally may not condone violence but when you opened up this moning with 'i hope you all die' you didn't exactly present yourself as a reasonable and placid bloke.
i dont think im alone there. and the media can write what they want. and they will. dont let the truth get in the way of a good story! and in the rare instances where crooks such as these do get a comeupance, i dont shed a tear. did you cry when ian huntley got whacked in prison? i didnt. i didnt celebrate either but i think he deserved it. they often deserve it. but it wont be me ruining my life by lamping them. but i suspect someone might if they find themselves in the wrong situation.

Good post Bangkok Rover.
Contrast this with Nottingham Forest.
They sack O'Driscoll but had McLeish lined up

Also why did Singh give Berg a 3 year contract in the first place when he publicly said that his only target was promotion.
Surely it would made made more sense to appoint Berg until the end of the season.
Now the club will have to pay up his contract as well as the Black's, Brunskill & Mimms.
Its a shambles.

Well it will interesting to see who survives after the meeting in India - Singh or Shaw/Agnew
In my opinion they are all useless.

When Shebby was asked yesterday if the club was looking to appoint an experienced manager this time, he apparenty replied 'it depends on what you call experienced'.

Well, my definition of 'experienced' is someone who has had more than 8 games as a caretaker manager at Aston Villa.

Yes technically he has managed in the Premier League but why would we want to bring in McDonald as the new boss when only 2 weeks ago he was approached about being Berg's assistant.
Crazy!

Singh is completely mad 'WELL RUN CLUB' - who is he trying to convince - its a complete shambles!!!!! Having said that Shaw and Agnew are part of the cancer and have been since their alliance to Kean and his mob including Hendry - they should be shown the door also along with Hendry asap
Obviously the best thing that could happen would be for the Venkys to realise they no longer have a future in Blackburn and sell up - if not to safe guard their investment they should appoint some very senior well respected Directors to look after their and our interests instead of allowing the likes of Shaw Agnew Singh and even Coar to carry on running this bloody circus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having said that Shaw and Agnew are part of the cancer and have been since their alliance to Kean and his mob including Hendry - they should be shown the door also along with Hendry asap Obviously the best thing that could happen would be for the Venkys to realise they no longer have a future in Blackburn and sell up - if not to safe guard their investment they should appoint some very senior well respected Directors to look after their and our interests instead of allowing the likes of Shaw Agnew Singh and even Coar to carry on running this bloody circus!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OUT WITH THE LOT OF THEM dangerous dave

Make no mistake about this. There isn't one of them genuine so no point trying to decide who we are behind in this triangle of dispute. As for Singh not being at the AGM how is that possible? He's the main decision makers. I also note Dunn and Pedersen aren't even in squad so obviously Singh has done the selection. Hope those playing get fans support. They must feel c##p working for that set up no matter what they earn

Jack Walkers family sold the club and are still estimated to be worth £500 million
According to Forbes , we also have John Whittaker billionaire ( believed to be a rovers fan )
WEC, Hemingway and quite a few other multi millionaires
All passionate fans ?
Yet just how much has BRIST got in the coffers after 12 months, for our supposed buy out from venkies
In a nutshell there are people out there who could help us out, but they would rather let us become a laughing stock

Whilst there is elements of team Kean still around there will still be unrest in the corridors of power.
spot on - its just most Rovers fans don't really know whats happened at their own club - thats why they don't understand the scum that AGNEW is.

Agnew is the sole remaining figure left at Ewood who is bought and paid for by JA.

Agnew was 1 of 3 people who went to India to meet with the Venkys to plot their takeover of the club - 3 months BEFORE Venkys bought Rovers (along with JA and SK).

Agnew was complicit in the plan (at that initial meeting) to get rid of SA, promote SK to 1st team manager and isolate JW, TF and JG and ultimately remove them from their jobs and hence completly unstable the club.

Why - so JA could rule the transfers and make millions from fees and inflated agents charges to 2nd rate players.

Paul Agnew "life-long Rovers fan" - don't make me laugh !!

If Shaw and Agnew aren't allowed to do their jobs then we really have no chance at all.

Shebby out!

I agree, however as useless Shaw and Agnew may be, I fear they will be sacked and shebby will talk himself into another promotion so he officially controls the club. I hope I'm wrong.

Well, my definition of 'experienced' is someone who has had more than 8 games as a caretaker manager at Aston Villa.

Yes technically he has managed in the Premier League but why would we want to bring in McDonald as the new boss when only 2 weeks ago he was approached about being Berg's assistant.
Crazy!
Singh obviously doesn't know what experienced means then if he has to ask.

No wonder he can't be taken seriously with statements like that.

This club was a shambles before Shabby appeared on the scene. The solution to the farce to my mind is simple. Don't go to Ewood till Venkys have gone - then we can pick up the pieces and start again. If the stadium is empty they would have to sell to salvage what dregs remains of their image.

You should work for a PR company (if you don't already).
im not threatening anyone. i just believe that should either of them bump into fans, especially if alcohol is involved, then they could well be in danger. feelings are running higher now than at any time i believe. would i hit them? no. im no direct action person myself. but many are. even in blackburn. and to deny this as a possibility is silly. anger is at fever pitch now. and its my opinion that anything can happen in these circumstances. it happens the world over. you could say we dont riot in britain. we are too civilised surely. but check your history and we clearly do.
and one more point... if you dont velieve me go to barnsley today and imagine shebby or judan ali standing in our end. are you telling me they would be safe?

We need it to leave it to police if anyone is inciting or threatening violence. Back to football Berg was a risk the club should not have taken. They should have got an experienced manager. come on lads, get us a result today.
i can agree with that mr dreckley. though seeing the team, and rwports re dunn and others divorcing the club, we are really in the mire now. apparently all the portugese are in the squad. my heart aches. but anyway. im off to barnsley. to cheer the team and vent my anger in equal amounts.

Talk that a manager will be appointed after the Barnsley game being refuted by Minge, who insists that Rovers is well run and there is no rush to appoint a new manager.

Radio 5live having a phone-in on is there a more laughable club in British football than Blackburn Rovers….and instead of being tempted to ring in and tell them to “mind your own chuffing business you London-centric k_nobheads” you nod sagely in agreement and resignation.

Fans at their wits ends, players unfit and directionless, no shirt sponsor, no corporate take up, attendances through the floor, bottom three clearly visible in rear view mirror. National joke.

I agree with most of the comments sent in. There does not seem to be a figurehead at the club whom the fans trust. Shaw and Agnew are really Preston fans, Hendry is a person who let the club down ( "I won't kick a ball for Blackburn Rovers" again) and let himself down. Shebby Singh gives the impression that he is a slate loose. Who is left to trust? Answers on the back of a postage stamp.

Shebby has no right to be at this club with the way he is acting and the things he says. He's not fit for purpose sacking people and trying to bring worse ones in that he had before. I am glad Shaw and Agnew have gone out to India as they do know the basics required to run a club properly and I hope they stand firm for what they believe in and how it should be run. Even if it means losing there jobs otherwise they will just be as bad as the rest of them and will deserve to lose their jobs anyway. I can only see this episode of Venky's ownership coming to a very quick conclusion especially if we go into League One this year and I woudn't bet against that happening.

Totally agree, but what the $€#% are we going to do?.........always said Kean wasn't the problem, just a symptom of the chaos the regime as created since buying the club.

W Trust had a responsibility when they sold the club....in my eyes they are to blame for allowing such a regime to own the club....their due diligence process is now seen as a joke.....either they need compensating for the D/D work, going to the FA saying they were duped into selling the club...and want the decision reversing or like I think the D/D process was just a smoke screen allowing the WT to take the money and run not giving a monkeys uncle to the memory of U Jack the fans or the community that helped make their millions

We need to ensure the clowns realise that they need to trust local people from Lancashire to run the club if they persit in appointing aliens we will carry on failing.

My opinion is none of these problems will be solved until the truth comes out, WHO REALLY OWNS THIS CLUB. because i don't believe it is just Venky's Andy Cole knew 2 months before it happened that Venky's would buy the club and sack big Sam. It is also "alleged" a certain agent, a certain pr man, and a certain so called manager paid a visit to Pune around the same time. If this is true then in my opinion it is possible the 3 mentioned above are more involved in this club, than they would have us believe.

I agree. but an FA Cup match could be written off by Venky's as not attractive enough for fans to buy tickets etc; etc. so may not have a great deal of effect.

There was talk of picking an home game last season and boycotting it by going down to Ewood but not going in. I would have done that no problem whatsoever irrespective of which game was chosen, even Man U, City, Liverpool and the like.

But it needs to be organised by people who have some capability and influence not just a few "concerned" fans on here.

Leeds United are on there way in February, if we get it right on the day there will definitely be more Leeds fans in the ground than Rovers fans.

Message for Glen Mullen.

I have been one of your greatest critics on here but as far as I am concerned what happened last season is dead and buried, I think all Rovers fans want the same thing, Venky's out of our club sooner rather than later.

And while we fans continue to squabble amongst ourselves we loose the focus on getting rid of the people who have wrecked our once proud club.

Don't know if that's true or not but lets face it, they can't do much worse than the guys who have played for most of this season.

Or have we stooped so low that we are going to start slagging players off even before they have put the shirt on? Some probably for the first time.

It isn't the players fault, whoever plays for us now desperately needs our support before and during the game.

Venky's must be the target, no-one else.

A few things to clear up:

Shaw and Agnew in India so absent from AGM.

Singh pleading his case in Pune to bring in McDonald and his crew.

Shaw and Agnew pleading case for Singhs dismissal.

Ball is in Venky's court right now to decide whose worse, the double team of money grabbing geniuses who brought us such talents as Kean, or the Pundit Singh whose blowing TWO million a month on his purchases and wants Ali on his coaching staff.

Right now since we can't be rid of Venky's without sustaining further decline the best decision Venky's could take is to sack the lot and look to bringing in an experienced manager who can bring his own backroom in and entice experienced boardroom to come in to clean up the mess.

This decision may be the most important one Venky's make in their tenure, as its not about the appointment of a single individual anymore. The boardroom they chose, failed them. They need to go. All of them. Keith Hill is right, there are still plenty of experienced choices out there, but they won't work under a regime that tells them who they can work with and who they have to employ, as Singh is ridiculously trying to do with McDonald.

I've said it before and il say it again, the only way to get Venkys and Shabby Minge to take real notice, is to boycott the games en mass. Crowds of say 5/6,000 would really really hurt them and only then would they have to take drastic action and spend so e money that they have plundered from our club.

It's no good whinging on here or on the streets, they don't read these forums or probably the Telegraph.

So stand up for your club and show your feelings by staying away and hitting the Venkys in their pocket. That's what I'm doing until we get a proven manager in charge and hopefully get rid of Shabby Minge at the same time.

And for the record I'm a season ticket holder and have been for over 25 years, but I refuse to take this bull**** anymore until its sorted.
