BLACKBURN Rovers were last night waiting for the green light from club owners to finalise the end to their search for a new manager.

The Lancashire Telegraph understand the final decision on who will replace Steve Kean lies with club matriarch Anuradha Desai – after managing director Derek Shaw, operations director Paul Agnew and global advisor Shebby Singh made recommendations.

The trio ended the interview process this morning, with talks with Harry Redknapp’s representatives, and the former Spurs boss has now ruled himself out.

It is believed Redknapp was on standby to meet club officials if the negotiations had gone well but any interest from his side quickly diminished early on in the talks.

It is understood that Rovers’ 1995 Premier League winner Henning Berg is a strong contender for the role after being interviewed on Monday night, although club officials remained tight lipped as all options were considered in India Berg has long been keen on the position, having previously managed in his native country at Lyn and Lillestrom, and has yet to return to Norway after his interview.

Shaw has attempted to advise Desai into appointing a more experienced manager, with Blackpool boss Ian Holloway high in his thoughts but, with an official approach still to be submitted, that looks increasingly unlikely.

All three are understood to have been keen on Molde boss and former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but it is believed he wants to see the current season out at his club, which continues into December.

Singh said last week he expected to be able to make an appointment by today and it is believed he remains hopeful it will be rubber stamped in time to make his deadline.

Meanwhile, Reknapp said: “I have not been offered the job and it is not something I want to do. Paul Stretford made contact this morning.

“Blackburn is a very good club and a club that could be promoted but it was not a move that I wanted to make.

“I want to go back in when I feel it is right for me. It was not a job I was chasing and I hope they found who they are looking for, “I had eight offers last week, to go abroad to all kinds of places.”

Berg, 43, signed for Rovers for £400,000 in 1992/93 and played a key role in the club's Premier League winning season a couple of seasons later.

He moved on to Manchester United for £5m in 1997, where he won the treble, before returning to Ewood Park in 2000.

Berg’s second spell at the club saw him help Rovers back into the Premier League and he then skipped the club to league cup success.

He has spent the last year as a pundit on Norwegian TV.

Since Kean’s departure, Rovers have made approaches for Spurs coach Tim Sherwood and Fulham’s Billy McKinlay, both of which were rejected.
