Blackburn's Edmundson takes fifth at 'Circuit of Ingleborough'
9:44am Thursday 15th March 2012 in Cycling By Dave Brown, Cycling correspondent
The Pendle Forest Cycling Club promotion of the ‘Circuit of Ingleborough’ time trial on Saturday was shortened by five miles to around 21 miles after roadworks affected the planned run-in from Ribblehead to Ingleton.
Chris Edmundson of Blackburn and District CTC was the best placed rider from our local clubs, taking fifth place in 58 minutes and nine seconds, with Burnley’s on-form Peter Greenwood sixth in 58m 21s – giving him the Vet60 prize – while Pendle Forest’s Simon Phillips was 11th in 59-16 and taking the Vet50 award.
The North Lancashire Road Club trio of Fraser Snape (59m 43s), Rob Dickinson (1-01-06) and Paul Taylor (1-01-59) took the team of three award.
Overall fastest performance came from Skipton-based Peter Williams in an excellent 52 minutes 10 seconds for the hilly ride.
The 2012 Sporting Courses (SPOCO) competition continues on Sunday with the Ribble Valley CRC Longridge Fell circuit in which our local clubs fill more than a quarter of the 70 entries.
The start is on Kestor Lane in Longridge from 10am and, after a loop around Higher Hodder, the finish is near the village cricket ground.
n SPOCO series riders should note that the planned Barrow Central Wheelers counting event on 21 April has been cancelled due to the illness of the organiser.
