NEW boys Brooksbottom will make their belated bit of Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale League history tomorrow when they finally play their first home game of their debut season.

The former Manchester Association outfit, who are based in Summerseat, spent big on improvements to the playing area at The Brox over the winter as they anticipated their move into the league along with Euxton.

But the bad weather with rain and then snow and ice meant that the field was not fit when the season started last month.

But now it has been passed fit by the Ribblesdale League executive committee after an inspection on Wednesday and Brooksbottom will take to their own field for the first time tomorrow when early season leaders make the trip.

Aside from the opening day of the season when Read were destroyed by an Andrea Agathangelou-inspired Settle they have been the league’s dominant force and Kyle O’Connor has a full strength side for the trip into the unknown.

Brooksbottom’s near neighbours Edenfield are the league surprise package so far and they are riding high in second place under new skipper Adam Barnes.

Their improvement this term has been largely down to returning pace bowler Liam Bones, who is the league’s leading wicket-taker with 24 victims, and the form with the bat of professional Paul Gallagher.

They welcome another form team Oswaldtwistle Immanuel to Gincroft Lane for a match that could set the pulse racing.

Title favourites Clitheroe have not had things all their own way this season but they will look to make it three wins on the spin when they face Padiham at Chatburn Road.

Padiham lost both games last weekend but they are boosted for the trip around Pendle Hill by the return of skipper Callum Clarke.

Clarke was expected to be out for a month with a hand injury he sustained a fortnight ago against Baxenden.

But he has responded well to treatment and if fit for the game as Padiham bid to respond to three straight defeats.

Ribblesdale Wanderers travel to Balshaw Park for their game against Euxton, while Whalley are in desperate need of a boost.

Richard Palmer’s men have only won once this season, although that was a notable scalp as they downed Clitheroe a fortnight ago.

They were beaten both days of last weekend’s double header and to add to their woes also crashed out of the Lancashire Cup on Monday.

A weakened side travelled to face Saddleworth League outfit Uppermill and slipped to a heavy loss.

But they are capable of hitting back when they go to Settle.

Cherry Tree are back up to full strength as they travel to an unpredictable Great Harwood, while Baxenden – whose weakened side suffered a first loss of the campaign at Settle last Sunday – bid to get back to form when Earby travel to Back Lane.
