CHORLEY earned their first win of the season as they beat fancied Morecambe at Woodhill Lane by 57 runs on Bank Holiday Monday.

Will Moulton made 69 with six fours and three sixes in the visitors’ 179-7 after Andy Holdsworth and Jack Bentham posted 57 for the first wicket.

Usual opener Jack Catterall was unable to bat after injuring his thumb in the warm-up.

Ikram Ullah hit 47 off 49 balls in Morecambe’s reply before he became one of Billy Smith’s three victims. Gaurav Dhar then reeled in 4-41 as Morecambe were dismissed for 122.

Darwen fell 16 runs short of victory as their home game with St Annes was drawn.

Former Pakistan Test ace Atiq uz-Zaman hit his first century of the season, 122 off 139 balls including 13 fours and two sixes, in St Annes’ 210-5. He shared an opening stand of 99 with Nanthesh Kiruparan who made 28.

Darwen pro Mohammad Zaman Khan made 51 off 72 balls and Chris Clarke 45 off 69 balls in Darwen’s reply before both fell victims to Matt Grindley as the locals lost their way mid innings.
