TODMORDEN cemented their top six place in the Lancashire League with a 51 run victory over Rawtenstall at Centre Vale.

Having won the toss and decided to bat Andrew Sutcliffe’s men stumbled to 167-7 from their 50 overs, with opener Simon Newbitt contributing 42 at the top of the order.

Ben Sutcliffe also made an unbeaten 33 and Elliott Gilford made 30, but veteran Keith Roscoe was again in the wickets for Rawtenstall, and his haul of 4-37 took him to 68 Lancashire League wickets for the season.

But Roscoe’s good work with the ball counted for little as Rawtenstall were bowled out for 116.

Sam Kershaw managed 27 coming in at three but the only other notable contribution was 24 from number 10 Cameron Holder.

Rawtenstall slumped from 30-1 to 74-8, with Gilford taking 4-30 and Martin Harlow 4-38.

Jake Clarke was in the runs for Accrington and his 69 helped the home side to a 42 run victory over Colne, who remain bottom of the league.

Clarke steadied Accrington’s innings at Thorneyholme Road after the hosts had slipped to 52-4.

His knock helped them to 171 all out and it proved to be enough to beat strugglers Colne.

Captain Matt Walker made a valiant unbeaten 58 but he received little support and the visitors were bowled out for 129.

James Hayhurst took 5-34 and professional Ockert Erasmus 4-56.

Champions Burnley took the points at Lanehead as they beat Bacup by 126 runs.

David Brown hit 73 and Chris Holt made 65 as the visitors made 235-5 from their 50 overs.

This week Holt signed on for another year as professional and he celebrated with an excellent all-round performance, taking 4-52 as Bacup were bowled out for 109 inside 37 overs.

Pro Haseeb Azam provided the only resistance, making 46, with the next highest scorer, Matt Collinge, only making 11.

Lowerhouse remain third after a 26 run win at home against East Lancs.

The House made 196 all out batting first, with Matt Walker hitting 57 and Ben Heap 36.

East Lancs looked out of it at 95-7 but some lower order hitting from David Turner (55) got them back into the contest.

But when Walker, who took 5-47, clean bowled him Lowerhouse were over the winning line.

Daryn Smit might have gone back to South Africa but Ramsbottom didn’t miss him as sub pro PASS Jeewantha hit 120, his highest ever Lancashire League score, in their total of 268-5, ably supported by opener Tom Parton, who made 94.

Rishton never looked like chasing the target down and they bowled out for 191, with Simon Read taking 4-33 and Jonathan Fielding 3-58.

It was a run fest at Bentgate as Enfield won by 10 runs after making 324-6.

Former South African Cricket of the Year and current Lancashire batsman Alviro Petersen turned on the style with a magnificent 187, with Tiarnan Hamill making 57.

Haslingden almost pulled off a stunning chase, with Burton de Wett making 127, but Petersen took 4-86 to secure victory.

Church beat Nelson by three wickets in a low scoring game.
