BURNLEY can take a giant leap towards the Lancashire League title with wins against struggling Colne and Nelson in this weekend’s double-header.

The Turf Moor men are 17 points clear of Ramsbottom in second place heading into tomorrow’s home game with second-bottom Colne and maximum points there and at home to Nelson in a repeat of the Worsley Cup final, would put them in the driving seat heading into the final games.

Ramsbottom know they cannot afford to drop any points in their pursuit of the leaders with professional Daryn Smit returning to South Africa after this weekend’s matches, and they are on the road at East Lancs tomorrow before hosting Haslingden on Sunday.

Bottom of the table Rishton are in a three-way scrap to avoid the wooden spoon with Colne and Bacup and the former will be eyeing points from two away trips against Haslingden tomorrow, and East Lancs on Sunday,
