LANCASHIRE League leaders Burnley remain on course to claim the double, having picked up maximum points with a six-wicket win at Accrington.

They were indebted to professional Chris Holt who returned figures of 6-37 to help bowl out Accrington for 135, Matt Wilson top-scoring on 33.

The chase was far from easy for Burnley though, with Jimmy Hayhurst removing Holt for 14 before Accrington pro Ockert Erasmus claimed his 50th victim of the season when he dismissed David Brown.

When Hayhurst and Erasmus each struck again, sending Jon Clare and Chris Burton back to the pavilion, Burnley were rocking at 54-4.

But Michael Brown (31 not out) and Vishal Tripathi (70 not out) steadied the ship, adding an unbeaten 82 for the fifth wicket to see the Worsley Cup winners home.

Ramsbottom kept up the pressure on the leaders courtesy of a win over Todmorden at Centre Vale. The match saw Todmorden veteran Stuart Priestley join the 10,000-run club.

The 49-year-old, who made his debut in 1981, scored 26 to reach the milestone — but it was not enough to stop the visitors from winning by 39 runs.

Priestley took 2-25 in Ramsbottom’s 155-7, with professional Daryn Smit yet again the star of the show with the bat as he made 55.

Fourteen-year-old Will Turner made 22 on his league debut.

Todmorden were dismissed for 116 though, Michael Haslam taking 4-25 and Smit 4-24.

In a basement battle, bottom club Rishton closed the gap on Colne to one point courtesy of a nine-wicket win at Blackburn Road.

Colne, without professional Thomas Kaber, were dismissed for 113. Rishton professional Kelly Smuts took 4-17.

Smuts then added an unbeaten 50 from just 42 balls to see his side over the line after the loss of Job Dobson early on.

Bradley Boddie stayed with Smuts, hitting 57 from 72 balls as they comfortably saw Rishton over the line.

In a weekend of fine all-round performances, Graeme van Buuren took 6-51 for Enfield, including his 50th wicket of the season, and then made 61 as his side beat Lowerhouse by four wickets.

Cobus Pienaar top-scored for the House with 63 not out in a total of 206-9. Jonny Whitehead (46 not out) and Matt Walker (43 not out) also made strong contributions with the bat.

Enfield looked to be making serene progress at 128-2 but lost a couple of quick wickets before Tiarnan Hamill and Charlie Jackson saw them over the line.

Church came out on top in a thrilling clash with Bacup. Last pair Sam Tucker and Luke Gilrane added 11 to snatch a single-wicket victory.

Tucker made an unbeaten 21 from 44 balls to steady the ship and see Church home, after Bacup professional Haseeb Azam had taken 4-44.

Bacup had made 137 with the bat, Azam scoring 34 and Matt Collinge 17. Jack Gaskill claimed 3-9 for Church.

East Lancs beat Haslingden by 65 runs, wicketkeeper Matt Egan claiming seven victims and Minhaj Bhada taking a career-best 5-53.

Bhada struck 78 as East Lancs posted an imposing 258-5. Stand-in skipper Chris Riley made 44 as East Lancs put on 106 for the first wicket.

Professional JP de Villiers added 39.

Haslingden professional Burton de Wett top-scored with 81 from 93 balls, including two sixes, as he passed 500 runs for the season. Captain Alex Coleman added 27 but it was Bhada’s day and it ended in a comfortable victory.

Veteran Keith Roscoe took 5-40, passing 50 wickets in a season for the 17th time, as Rawtenstall beat Nelson by 33 runs. Spin was the order of the day for Rawtnestall, Imran Abid taking 4-43 as Nelson were skittled for 133. Russel Bradley top-scored for Nelson with 63.

Nelson’s total was in response to Rawtenstall’s 166-8. They had slumped to 50-4 but Matt Kershaw made a vital 44 not out, teaming up with Joe McCluskie to add 76 for the fifth wicket.
