THE wife of former footballer Colin Hendry is back in hospital after a recurrence of the illness which threatened her life five years ago.

Denise Hendry contracted a blood infection in 2002 during a liposuction procedure at a private clinic.

She later won a six-figure settlement after taking legal action against her surgeon.

Clyde manager Colin Hendry, 41, is in Lancashire to be at his wife's bedside.

He played for various sides including Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Preston North End and then managed Blackpool.

Colin said: "It was planned but things haven't really worked out the way we'd hoped so she might be in hospital for a wee while."

Denise Hendry is being treated at Royal Preston Hospital, the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery in 2002.

Colin said: "She is in good hands, the best hands - the same people who saved her in the first place.

"I have had a lot of people contacting me during the week but I've just been batting it away and didn't want to say anything until after today's game."

Mrs Hendry was in intensive care for nearly two months following the botched cosmetic surgery five years ago.

She suffered nine punctures to her bowel and colon during the £2,400 procedure.

Her injuries caused blood poisoning which led to multi-organ failure, including a cardiac arrest which stopped her heart for four minutes.

Colin Hendry kept a bedside vigil during her fight for life and had to face the agony of telling their four children that their mother might die.

Mrs Hendry went on to warn other women considering cosmetic surgery to check out their surgeon before going under the knife.
