THE second Chorley Park Series race began with the highly competitive junior park held over a tough one-mile course in Astley Park.
First home in an excellent time was Blackburn Harriers’ Elizabeth Greenwood in 5:55 mins, closely followed by Chorley’s Joseph Monk and Ben Hughes.
It was a good night for Chorley with Monk, Hughes and Jack Hughes tightening their grip on the team title.
Emma Plant added to Chorley honours by finishing third female in an excellent 6:47, behind Blackburn’s Hannah Cookson.
Many Clayton-le-Moors Harriers juniors took part and first home was George Pier in fourth, chalking up a personal best time of 6:29. His younger sister Alice Pier was the first 12-year-old girl home, while Charley Bateson was the first 12-year-old boy.
Pendle’s Briony Holt was the first 10-year-old girl home.
Gisburn’s Tom Cornthwaite achieved a personal best when coming 19th at Sunday’s Great Manchester 10k run, which was emphatically won by Ethiopian legend Haile Gebrselassie.
The Blackburn Harriers athlete, 27, clocked 30:04 at the event, while club-mates Karl Billington and Paul Guinan finished 47th and 80th.
Rossendale Triathlon Club duo Garrie Prosser and Jonathan Ferguson finished second and fourth respectively at last Sunday’s St Annes Triathlon.
