ROSSENDALE’S Andy Buttery just missed out on victory at last Saturday’s testing Standish Hall Trail Race – although there was success for Tara Krzywicki of Accrington Road Runners.
Almost 250 runners took to the muddy and energy-sapping race of approximately 10km, involving several of East Lancashire’s top long-distance runners.
For Buttery, he had to settle for second place after a close-running battle throughout with overall winner Ian Grime of Newham and Essex Beagles.
Grime, a former Edinburgh Marathon champion, finished in a time of 36 minutes and 29 seconds, with Buttery on 36:53.
Julian Goudge, of Chorley Harriers, finished a creditable eighth in 39:11, with Todmorden Harrier Robin Tuddenham 10th in 39:49.
But there was success for Accrington’s Krzywicki who won the women’s race in 41:11, beating Kirsty Longley of Liverpool Pembroke Sefton into second.
