n Pendle Forest Orienteers have been chosen to host the 2010 British Schools’ Score Championships, which will be held on Saturday at Witton Park, Blackburn. While it is too late to enter, there will be an open event afterwards giving anyone the chance to try out the course. Entry is on the day between 2pm and 2.30pm with a mass start at 2.45pm.

The main event is for pupils in years 5-13 inclusive and years 5-8 may compete in pairs. In a ‘Score’ competition participants score points by visiting as many controls as possible within the time limit, with points being deducted for finishing late. Pupils up to Year 9 will have 45 minutes with older children being allowed an hour. Starts are from 10.30am to 12.15pm with the prize giving taking place at around 2.30pm.

n The final race in the BOFRA Championship is on Saturday. The Wasdale Show is at Wasdale Head in West Cumbria at 3pm. There are races for U12s, U14s, U17s and seniors. The senior race is a stern test with 2,400 feet of climb in just 2.5 miles. n The Lytham Hall Autumn 4K is a fast, flat and accurately measured road race within the grounds and surrounding area of Lytham Hall, a Grade 1 listed 18th century Georgian manor house at Lytham FY8 4JX. It will be on Sunday at 11am.

n The Natterjack Seaside 10K takes place at Princes Park in Southport on Sunday. The main race is at 11am after a Fun Run at 10am.

n The Gin Pit Five Mile Trail Race is on Sunday at 11am from the Miners Welfare Club, Gin Pit Village, Ley Road, Tyldesley, Manchester M29 7DW. The event, organised by Astley and Tyldesley Roadrunners also includes a two mile fun run at 10.30am.

n The Beefy’s Nab Fell Race is on Sunday at 3pm from the Lamb Inn at Oxenhope. There is a full set of junior races for over 6s upwards from 2pm onwards culminating with a three-mile long senior race, including 650 feet of climb, at 3pm.

n Accrington Road Runners are accepting entries for their ever popular 10 kilometre road race which takes place on Sunday October 31. The race starts at 10am on Burnley Road outside the Whitakers Arms pub. You can download an entry form or enter online at John Schofield’s site. Entries will also be taken on the day from 8am at Accrington Cricket Club, Thorneyholme Road, Accrington BB5 5BB. All finishers will win a T-shirt.
