Bingley Harriers Rob Jebb and Mary Wilkinson were the winners of the 53rd Three Peaks Fell Race, the annual 24-mile trek through the Yorkshire Dales taking in Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Jebb took the men's title for the third consecutive year in 2:51:49, only five minutes short of Andy Peace's record, as Yorkshire athletes scooped the first three places.

John Heneghan, from the Pudsey and Bramley club made second in 2:54:54 with Ian Holmes taking the over 40 title for Bingley with third in 3:03:39.

However, Keiran Carr, Christine Preston and Wendy Dodds were all age group winners to ensure a fair share of the awards ended up on the western side of the Pennines.

The day was warm but the breezes helped to cool the athletes making the conditions ideal, and there were few reports of the athletes suffering as they had in the London Marathon seven days earlier.

Clayton's Carr enjoyed an outstanding run to retain his over 60 title in 3:44:13 placing 69th of 459 finishers with only four over 50s ahead of him.

Club mate Wendy Dodds was another repeat winner with success in the over 50 women's class logging 4:18:08.

Wendy has missed only four races since women were allowed to compete and she holds the women's appearance record with 24.

Dave Scott broke the men's record last year and chalked up his 40th this time, the over 60 veteran ducking under five hours once again.

Todmorden Harriers fielded our first locals in both the women's and men's races with Jon Wright and Christine Preston.

Christine, ninth woman, was also the first over 40 in 4:03:00 while Jon was 11th man in 3:12:25. Paul Thompson was the second local man to make the top 20, 14th in 3:17:10, followed by former winner Dave Walker in 27th.

Paul and Dave represent Clayton Harriers while Richard Mellon in 28th and Dave Naughton 31st were the first counters for Bowland Fell Runners and Darwen Dashers.

Naughton was eighth over 40 as Clayton duo Ian Greenwood and Tim Edward rounded out the top 10.

Former class winner Graham Schofield was second over 50 this year in 3:40:23 with Clayton's current runner of the month Andy Robinson, two minutes behind in third.
