LANCASHIRE'S Intermediate Girls were the team winners in the English Schools Cross Country Championships, after beating off challenges from 41 other counties.
Hannah Bateson from Lancaster set up the victory chance with a fantastic sixth place while the other five counters packed impressively to finish in the first 100 in an elite field of 338.
It was enough to give them a narrow eight point margin over the West Midlands as Hampshire took third.
Blackpool's Kristie Leybourne was 33rd followed closely by three athletes from our area. Rachel Searson and Emma Flanagan representing Blackburn and Darwen Schools were 42nd and 54th with Holly Robinson from South Ribble 64th.
The team was rounded out by a second Blackpool runner Jennifer Davies home in 92nd. Non-counters Melanie Taylor and Leigh Lennon, both from Blackburn, lent valuable backup.
Searson and Robinson train with Blackburn Harriers while Flanagan trains with Rossendale Harriers.
