Meanwhile, thunder, rain and hailstones did not deter a strong turn out by Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club at the third Red Rose Cross-Country meeting at Bolton.

The ladies team was successfully led home by Anya Townsend in 75th (10th Under 20).

Lisa Bowles, Christine Sweatman, Alison Fowler, Karen Hancock and Lisa Johnson also contributed to a great effort by the Chorley girls.

Olivia Leigh (U11) finished in the top 20 while Amber Boardman, Emily Warren, Isabelle Farran, Erin Clarke, Amelia Bowles, Eloise Beattie, Ellie Hancock, Layla Atton and Amelia Davies all chipped in with great performances.

Ben Hughes was in 20th place in the under 13s race, with Jacob Hughes in 44th position.

Under 11s prospect PJ Hughes finished in ninth position, which was a superb effort.

He led home Jack Hughes, Joe Bowles, Martin Rimmer, Owen Kellett and Oliver Murphy.

Adam Sciacca finished in 29th position in the men’s race.
