LIZ Greenwood has enjoyed a brilliant start to her winter cross country campaign, clocking up a hat-trick of big race wins at last weekend’s meet at Bolton.

Greenwood has an unbeaten record so far, landing gold at Leigh and Chorley – and now she is celebrating another victory roll after her success at muddy Leverhulme Park.

Competing in the under 15 girls race, Liz led home the Harriers team of Megan Clarkson (fifth) and Rose Abbott (17th) to take the second team spot behind winners Rossendale.

The Harriers squad competed in difficult conditions and Jamie Teare, who has also enjoyed a solid start to the season, ran well to finish in seventh place in the under 11 boys race.

Jamie finished just 25 seconds behind the winner – Coel Mellor of Leigh Harriers.

In the under 11 girls race, Amy Davies is in a rich vein of form, finishing third from a field of 76.

Amy was 12 seconds behind the winner – Penny Townsend of Horwich. In Amy’s other two fixtures this term, she finished second at Leigh and fourth place at Chorley. Last month she won the Mid-Lancs meet at Burnley.

Amy Dowsing took 20th place and Alayna Irvine 48th.

Harriers fielded just two athletes in the under 17 men’s race, with Robert Wong finishing in eighth position, followed home by Robert Buckley a place behind.

In the men’s senior race, with 205 runners, Harriers had eight runners competing.

Stephen Chew was eighth overall, while Paul Guinan was home in 15th place; Tom Blaney (20th), John Sutton (40th), Allan Hartley (119th), John Cookson (133rd), Ian Clarkson (155th) and Richard Taylor (164th) Sixteen teams had full squads of counters and the Harriers, led home by Chew and vet Guinan, who won the V40 category, looks set for more good runs over the winter.
