Burnley linked with former striker David Nugent

Lancashire Telegraph: Leicester future remains uncertain for ex-Claret striker Leicester future remains uncertain for ex-Claret striker

DAVID Nugent’s future at Leicester City is in the balance – with Burnley linked with a move to bring the striker back to Turf Moor.

Nugent helped Leicester to the Championship title with 22 goals during the 2013/14 season, but the forward’s contract expires at the end of the month.

The Foxes have offered Nugent a new deal but he is yet to agree terms and initial confidence that the 29-year-old would re-sign is starting to wane in the East Midlands.

Nugent had a loan spell with Burnley during their last Premier League campaign and the Clarets are among the clubs being linked with an interest if he does leave Leicester this summer.

It is understood that a number of clubs are interested, with Middlesbrough, Hull City, West Ham United and Swansea City among those reported to be tracking him.

Burnley could add a striker to their ranks this summer to provide competition for Danny Ings, Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes – particularly as the latter will miss the start of the season after damaging his cruciate ligaments.

Nugent is currently understood to be on holiday, with no decision on his future imminent, but time is ticking down to the start of pre-season.

The striker joined Leicester from Portsmouth in 2011 and has enjoyed success at the King Power Stadium – also maintaining his habit of scoring whenever he faces Burnley.

He became a father for the first time towards the end of 2013 and said then that wanted to agree a new contract with Leicester.

But reports suggest the Foxes have offered him only a one-year deal, while other clubs would be prepare to offer him two years. Sources in the East Midlands suggest that a deal to remain at Leicester, expected to be a formality this summer, is now firmly in the balance.

Nugent netted six times in 30 appearances during his one season with the Clarets in the top flight in 2009/10.

Burnley have also been linked with Algeria centre back Madjid Bougherra, who has issued a come and get me plea to Premier League clubs following his release by Qatar side Lekhwiya.

The 31-year-old appeared for his country in their World Cup game against Belgium yesterday and has previously represented Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, Crewe and Rangers.

Absolute lazy-as-**** journalism.

Is this Chris Flanagan a Rovers fan? Because it appears his knowledge of Burnley consists of taking stuff from the football rumours website.

Problem? It's that it makes those that support bent and twisted biased behaviour pleased - people like you.

Nugent is not good enough for the Premiership and Leicester probably realise that. Good enough for the Dingles though as they'll soon be back in the Championship. Indeed I noticed the hoarding outside Turf Moor which read "Coming soon - Burnley in the Premier League" now reads "Coming soon - Burnley out of the Premier League"

We have Dyche. Look what you serial losers got out of Jones. Look what we got out of him. Dyche will only buy players he thinks he can do something with for the benefit of the club and for the players career. Do we back his judgement or yours. Go have a guess stumpy.

Goodness me if you're this bad now what will you lot be like in August? I hope this mass obsession doesn't end in mass hysterical collective wrist slitting when we actually win a game. Clubs go up clubs come down. I expect that will happen next season too. If Blackburn went up the one difference would be a lack of bed wetting children offering online predictions. Grow up you child.

I guess the same will be said about Ings as he's not as good as Nugent? A straw to clutch at there (and only if he doesn't go to Southampton) but sadly no consideration for the rest of the squad - a car crash awaits my web footed friends.

Future turmoil beckons.............

Future turmoil in your back yard. I see Sky are showing the comedy club from Ewood in August, should be good for a great laugh to watch it before we start our Premier league campaign a week later. Read and weep you schizo.
