  • "If Alan Myers can bring the same openess to Ewoodd as he did at Goodison then we may have a decent com manager at last!

Everton FC's popular director of communications Alan Myers has left the club. The former Sky Sports veteran only joined the Blues in the summer, and quickly became a hit with supporters for his willingness to interact with them and encourage a culture of openness with fans.

Myers, a passionate Evertonian, is understood to have informed the board of his decision to quit yesterday, after a short period off ill.

He took to Twitter once the club had announced the news earlier to thank everyone for their support during his seven-month spell at Goodison.

‘I wish to confirm that I have left Everton and want to thank the fans so much for their kindness, understanding, and help in my short time,’ he wrote.

‘I also want to put on record my gratitude to Roberto, The players and staff. And please know this, I am Evertonian until I'm put in a box!’

A formal club statement said that Myers had left to ‘personal reasons’.
A spokesman said: “Alan has informed the Club that he sees his future career away from the demands of Goodison Park.
“We respect Alan’s wishes and would like to thank him for the contribution he has made since arriving at Everton. Everyone at the Club wishes him the very best for the future.”

The club’s former director of communications Paul Tyrrell, who Myers took over from, was among the first to wish his former successor well.

‘Sad to see @alanmyers1 leave Everton. First class man. Wish him all the best for the future,’ he tweeted. ‘Everton need good people who genuinely care about the club, professionals who want to serve it. @alanmyers1 ticked every one of those boxes’."
