We are not promoted yet, says Burnley ace Arfield

Lancashire Telegraph: Scott Arfield Scott Arfield

MATCH-WINNER Scott Arfield insists Burnley will keep progressing one game at a time, and not take their 10-point advantage for granted.

Arfield’s seventh goal of the season secured a rare double over Leeds United, and strengthened the Clarets’ position in the top two, after third-placed Derby County were held to a goalless draw at Reading.

But the Scot says that, with just 10 games to go, there is still no talk of promotion in the Turf Moor camp.

“It’s a great position to be in, you’d rather be that then anything else, but the mentality has been the same since the first game of the season against Bolton to now,”

Arfield said. “It’s every game as it comes. It’s a formidable league and every game’s going to be tough.”

Arfield noted the Clarets overcame another tough test from Leeds, having to come back from 1-0 down to extend their year-long unbeaten home league run with a win.

"We knew what was going to happen, they were going to come at us after two bad results so it was up to us to put a performance in," said Arfield.

"The first half was a bit scrappy, nothing was really happening then Tripps (Kieran Trippier) made a great run, Dean Marney played him in and we got a bit of luck there with the ball in the back of the net.

"Overall I think we controlled the second half without them making too many chances.

"One goal was the difference but overall I think we deserved the win," added the wide man, who secured it with a second-half strike.

"I caught it ever so sweet, I didn't have time to think about it after a great clearance from Tom Lees."

Scottie has been a revelation this season, scoring vital (points winning) goals in a hard working, talented, close knit team.
BTW I see pato who went in the opposite direction has now been farmed out to league 1 bristol city!
Good call CLARETS

I'd say that patto has found his level. I never rated him and would have happily let him go when Cotterell showed interest before he was injured again. He did have an odd good game and scored one or two good goals, but too many poor displays and far too long on the sick bench.
On the other hand, arfers has been brilliant since that stupid back pass gifted the bstds a draw and cost us 2 points earlier this season. I thought he was going to be a liability but has proved quite the opposite. A valuable member of the squad and he is quite right to reinforce the one game at a time attitude, especially now. We have played the season so far looking no further than who's up next knowing that if we do and are successful, then everything else will fall into place. So far it has. For 3/4 of the season we have employed a winning formula, I'm happy to stick with it. Charlton next and nothing else really matters apart from 'come on you owls'!
