Burnley boss insists his Clarets remain relaxed as Championship promotion race starts to reach fever pitch

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche is determined to play it cool as the promotion race hots up.

Saturday’s visit of third-placed Derby County presents the Clarets with a chance to open up a five-point gap to second place, after they stretched their advantage over top six rivals Nottingham Forest to eight points with a 3-1 win at Turf Moor.

It stretched Burnley unbeaten home run to 20 Championship games, with seven more to come this season.

But while the Rams will be eyeing up a raid, after becoming serious promotion contenders since Steve McClaren took charge in September, Dyche said: “We’re not afraid of anyone, we look to play our way whoever we play.”

A formidable first-half performance was enough to blow Forest away at the weekend.

But Dyche insists they will not rely on that result as a springboard for their next top six showdown.

Asked if the Forest win would set his side up well for the Derby game, the Clarets boss said: “I think they all set you up well.

“Bournemouth wasn’t one of our best performances but another valuable point.

“You can’t always define that.

“We debriefed the last game but then we clear our minds and get ready for the next one.

“The strong mentality we’ve got, I think we can come out of any situation and deliver again so that’s what we’re looking to do.”

Meanwhile, the Clarets boss refused to regard the visits of either Forest or Derby as the so-called six-pointers in the Premier League push.

“Factually it’s three points whichever way you look at it, whether you’re playing top middle or bottom,” he continued.

“It’s fair to say Saturday had a bit more feel to it because the expectation is so big at Forest.

“They hadn’t lost in 14.

“They have a very high quality squad of players.

“But we value what we’re doing here and we value the players we’ve got.”

However, after adding Ashley Barnes to his attacking options in the January transfer window, Dyche remains on the lookout for further reinforcements for the run-in through the ‘emergency loan’ system.

“We’ve still got open lines of communication with a number of parties. Some have to wait until a gap opens up but if there are some that we think can give us strength in depth and we’ll utilise that as we see fit.”

As good as things have gone I can't help feeling we're going to come up short. Either way it's been a good campaign all considered when you look at our squad though it feels like we're due our own run of bad luck and injuries as the season draws to a close.

I sense that Forest are now going to struggle, Derby will not quite have it, QPR are disorganised and play-off material and that Leicester will lose their nerve like last year.

Our consistency (6th unchanged starting 11?), group focus and ideals are almost unique, much in the same way they were when we went up last time.

Even the B*st*rds game will be a revelation of focus on the game - and less on the unneccesary emotions - that Sean Dyche and the boys have created.

I believe we will go up as (very worthy) champions.

This is because you're a jealous no-dad ashamed of Blackburn Rovers, who longs to be able to come out of the closet and stand shoulder to shoulder with real football fans down at Turf Moor watching the best football outside of the top teams in the Premier League. I pity you.

Stay away from sharp knives and lengths of rope mate...buckle up and enjoy the ride.

I have every faith in Dyche and the squad and hopefully after Saturday there will be some clear blue sky between us and 3rd place - you'll feel better then I'm sure.

Do one Fake Villa, you are so embarrassing with your other monikers of bubble pop and Dingle Dangle, saying the same old things and boring quotes.

All you have posted here is what you WISH would happen, what you have basically been saying is going to happen since we moved into the top two in September:

10 games in is not enough to judge, we will start to fall away shortly
The small squad will cost Burnley as injuries/suspensions kick in
Haven't played anyone in the top six (avoiders I believe you called us)
It will all go wrong at Xmas
In January Ings and Tripper will be sold
Dyche will go to a vacant managers job in the Premier League
It is all going to go pop.

Well we have lost just three games all season
We have a strike force that are the best in the country (42 goals between them so far)
Second best defence in the entire league
a goal difference that is only just behind Leicester
Sat in second place with a great chance to extend our lead

Aren't you just gutted about all of this you sad Burnley fan wannabee?

I see the several named humourless one is in town again. Honestly, I don't know why he/she/it doesn't just go away and find another sport to infest. They obviously aren't a Rovers fan or any kind of football fan judging by the alarming lack of any football knowledge. It is simply a case of someone with too much time on their hands just being a wind-up. They probably go on other forums as well making pointless and uninformed statements on things like cricket or American football. My advice to all Clarets is and always has been ignore the nonsense and they will get fed up and go away. Attention seekers only carry on doing things that get attention, without that they have nothing to live for.
On a better note: Sean is right, right, right!! Let the other teams do the worrying. 5 months in the top 3 and most of it in the top 2, with no sign of anything whatsoever going pear shaped. Bring on Derby County and (hopefully) 5 points clear.
