ENFIELD bid to stay in the clear in the race for the Foster’s Lancashire League title on a day when substitute professionals could well make an impact.

Adam Bracewell’s men, who stayed in pole position last Sunday when they negotiated a tough track at Alexandra Meadows to beat East Lancashire, face a Hyndburn derby against a Rishton side who have impressed at times this season and pulled off some notable scalps with professional Dan Salpietro looking good.

But Enfield paid man Werner Coetsee has 692 runs and 77 wickets and his all-round form - and back-up from the amateurs - has seen the Dill Hall Lane outfit go two points ahead of reigning champions Lowerhouse.

Charlie Cottam’s men are two points behind Enfield but head into the Rossendale Valley for their game with rock-bottom Rawtenstall as big favourites to claim maximum points and keep the pressure firmly on the leaders.

Todmorden have put themselves right into the hunt and are just three points behind Lowerhouse – and they too aim to maintain the pressure as they face Haslingden at Centre Vale.

To win that match they must overcome one of the best players to have graced the Lancashire League in recent years in the shape of Steve Dearden, who fills in as Haslingden substitute professional.

Another gigantic name in the history of the league also makes a return to action tomorrow as Nelson turn to the record breaking Joe Scuderi as sub-pro for their game at Accrington, while Bacup also have a borrowed paid man for their Lanehead meeting with Burnley.

They have taken advantage of Netherfield’s Northern League open date and field hugely impressive South African pro Cobus Pienaar for the game.

Church look to warm up for the Worsley Cup final with a West End meeting with East Lancashire, while Colne play host to Ramsbottom in the day’s other game.
