RIBBLESDALE High School’s Year 10s football team’s incredible run is over after losing in the final of the English Schools U15s Cup.

It proved to be a game too far for the Clitheroe school as they lost 3-0 to Oasis Academy from Croydon.

Despite the London team being packed full of Crystal Palace Academy players, Ribblesdale went to the final at Derby County’s Pride Park full of confidence – and cheered on by more than 250 fellow pupils.

Dale had been crowned North of England champions after beating favourites Wright Robinson from Manchester 2-1 in the semi finals.

So they were in buoyant mood and held firm in the opening exchanges, with keeper Josh Pomfret untrouble as Oasis were restricted to long range efforts.

But the Londoners took a dubious lead after 25 minutes when David Robinson appearing to be fouled in the build up to the opening goal.

Ribblesdale then had an equaliser chalked off after Robinson’s effort was ruled out for offside.

With 20 minutes remaining, Dominic Telford had a excellent chance to level matters only for his effort to be saved.

To make matters worse, Oasis doubled their lead in their next attack and added a third as Ribblesdale chased the game.

However, Ribblesdale went on to win the Lancashire Schools Cup after beating Temple School of Preston 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Telford.

And it was double joy for Ribblesdale as the under 14s beat Clitheroe Royal Grammar School 2-1 in the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley Schools District Cup final.
