SALESBURY’S batsmen stole the show from their star professional Susantha Pradeep as they stepped up to the plate to give the basis of an excellent Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale League win over Edenfield on a scorching Saturday.

The Red Caps, now in their third season in the Senior League, generally rely on their Sri Lankan all-rounder to come up with the goods – but as they aim to avoid a third successive wooden spoon, the amateurs finally came good in the summer sunshine.

Pradeep was promoted to opener for the day but he had made just four when he shuffled across his stumps and was pinned leg before by Andrew Rushton.

But from that early blow Ian Rabagliati and Ben Rigby turned the game on its head with a 128-run stand for the second wicket.

They batted with poise and patience – and punished the bad ball before Rabagliati fell for 54, caught by Adam Barnes off Paul Gallagher.

James Watson hit a rapid 35 before he fell to another smart Barnes catch off Gallagher but that brought in Edward Foster – and he was in no mood to hang around.

He attacked the bowling and while Rigby’s fine innings came to an end when he had made 89 from 103 balls in his 124-minute knock, the scoreboard continued to turn thanks to Foster.

He brought up a 26-ball half century with the final delivery of the innings and Salesbury had posted 262-4 from their 45 overs.

That was a tall order – but with the brilliant Gallagher in their side, Edenfield were more than capable of chasing it down.

But despite the professional making 51 and Andy Parkins a lovely 37, Edenfield were always behind the eight ball and closed on 219-8.

Barnoldswick stayed clear at the top of the table as they recorded a fine win over Settle at Marshfield.

Peter Cook’s 95 was the mainstay of the Dalesmen’s 212-4 – and it seemed as though that would be enough to send the leaders crashing to a first loss of the season when Umar Saddique departed for 78 as his dismissal sparked a collapse from 192 -4 to 198-8.

But Paul Beech and Adil Khan proved to be heroes with Khan hitting a four off the final ball to win the match.

Baxenden maintained their run of form with a battling three-wicket win over Ribblesdale Wanderers.

Without their suspended skipper Andy Caunce Bash bowled Wanderers out for 168 with Laim Riley claiming four wickets and Kamran Younas three.

Wanderers seemed well set when pro Michael Erlank (61) and John Rain (45) were together but only Brannon Varey (24) managed to make double figures out of the remainder of the side.

And they were made to pay as Bash got home by three wickets despite a few wobbles with Ben Swindells making an unbeaten 55.

Jon Baldwin top scored with 42 against his old club – but Oswaldtwistle Immanuel were beaten at Cherry Tree despite recovering from 6-3 and 82-7 to make 167-9.

Gerard Metcalf made 27 down the order and Stephen Sipocz was 16 not out as they Immanuel tail wagged.

Andreas Sudnik claimed five wickets and there were three for pro Liam Jackson, who then made 59 not out in an unbroken 141-run stand for the third wicket as Cherry coated home.

Jordan Clark made 82 as Read completed a double over Clitheroe as they knocked off the home side’s 167-9 with five wickets in hand.

Syed Shahabuddin claimed five wickets as Great Harwood won at Earby. Harwood batted first and were bowled out for 157 – but the professional claimed 5-26 as Earby were 55 all out.

Martin Davies made 67 as Whalley beat Padiham by five wickets at The Arbories.

Declan Fitzhenry claimed five wickets as the home side were all out for 208 before Davies led Richard Palmer’s men home.
