FULL-strength Darwen bid to get back to winning ways in the Northern Premier League tomorrow and look to hoist themselves out of the bottom four when they make the tough trip to Leyland.

The Towers were shocked last weekend when they went down to Fleetwood at Birch Hall, losing an enthralling game by just six runs.

That left them with a record of just one win from their opening seven games and they are already 23 points adrift of their third-placed opponents.

But the Darwen side looks strong for the trip to Fox Lane with skipper John Cordingley joined in the team by his brothers Neil and Gareth, while rising star Alex Davies is also available and professional Shaun De Kock is finding his feet after his delayed arrival at Birch Hall.

Andy Holdsworth’s Chorley are also in need of a win, especially after they were beaten by lowly Carnforth at Lodge Quarry last time out.

But they face a tough test of their own when fourth-placed Netherfield arrive at Windsor Park determined to reclaim the second spot they lost when they were inactive last weekend.

Meanwhile, Toby Bulcock and the rest of his Cumberland Minor Counties team-mates will get a taste of how football superstars travel when they head to Truro next month in the quarter-final of the MCCA Trophy.

The Baxenden-born 21-year-old, who played in the Lancashire League for both Accrington and Rawtenstall, is now pro at Carnforth and a regular for Cumberland.

After Bulcock helped them to their Monday win over Cambridgeshire, the Cumberland team will travel to Truro for the quarter-final on June 17.

And they will travel down the M6 and M5 in style for the game after hiring the coach normally used by the Manchester United team.
