NEW skipper Mark Hadfield insists it’s business as usual for Cherry Tree and is aiming to push his side up the Ribblesdale League with a win against his old captain Jon Baldwin tomorrow.

The 29-year-old replaced Paul Turner as skipper at Preston Old Road this week and his first game in charge sees Cherry Tree tackle Oswaldtwistle Immanuel in a game that sees a return to Blackburn for bowler Baldwin.

Baldwin moved to New Lane over the winter and his first reunion with Cherry was washed out last month but will line up for Immanuel as they look for a first win of the season.

But Hadfield is determined to start his own reign with the points as Cherry bid to follow up last weekend’s big win at Edenfield.

“It will be good to see Jon back here,” he said. “He is a good friend – but those friendships will go to one side for the game.

“We want to follow up last week’s win with 12 points and carry on pushing for the top three.”

The Blackburn side are in fifth spot following their run festival at Gincroft Lane as Turner and Greg Jones smashed unbeaten centuries.

But that joy was shortlived as Turner stepped down as skipper 24 hours after the win with Hadfield appointed in midweek.

“I am delighted to have the chance to lead the side.” he said. “But it’s business as usual.

“The only difference is that I will be tossing the coin before the game instead of Paul and hopefully we can keep up the results and get the win we want.”

Barnoldswick are top of the table and opened up an eight-point lead with last weekend’s impressive win over Baxenden – and they face another stiff test of their credentials when they travel into North Yorkshire for a game with Settle at Marshfield.

And Read have received a boost with Oliver Newby being made available for their Ribble Valley derby with Clitheroe at Chatburn Road.

Newby was called into Lancashire’s squad for the County Championship clash with Middlesex – but the Red Rose releaed the pace ace for his home club.

Padiham and Whalley meet in what promises to be a good game at The Arbories as two in-form professionals clash. Padiham’s Chris Holt is the league’s joint leading wicket-taker with 31 victims and boasts a miserly economy rate of 2.87, while Whalley’s ex-IPL man Wilkin Mota is going for just 2.52 an over and is starting to look the real deal.

Great Harwood head to Applegarth for their game with Earby, Ribblesdale Wanderers are at Baxenden and Salesbury, who are missing skipper Steve Brown, play host to Jamie Kelly’s Edenfield in the day’s other games.
