ANDY Caunce reckons there is more to come from big-hitting Baxenden professional Kamran Younas after he blasted Bash to their stunning win over Oswaldtwistle Immanuel on Saturday.

The Back Lane captain looked on with a smile as Younas smashed 99 not out from just 39 balls as Bash coasted past Immanuel’s 127 all out in just 13 overs. He clattered 10 fours and nine sixes and at one stage the game had to be stopped while a frantic search went on for match balls as Younas had lost so many.

“It was good stuff,” said Caunce. “He is a class player and he is from the level of cricket where he just has not faced the style of bowling you see in the leagues before.

“So when someone like Gerard Metcalf comes in to bowl at him with the pace he bowls, he is going to get smashed out of the ground – and that’s what happened.

“Kamran hit him for 28 in one over and he batted really well – and that’s after we had bowled well in the first place.”

Caunce is aware that Younas needs to maintain his levels for the reigning champions, especially with a big game at the weekend at early leaders Barnoldswick.

He added. “The test is doing it against the Reads, Barnoldswicks and Clitheroes.

“I had a good chat with him after the game on Saturday and he will only improve.”

Caunce says he didn’t know too much about Younas, who was at Whalley for the past two seasons, when he signed on to replace Babar Naeem at Bash but admitted: “When I played against him last year he is probably the first bowler I have faced who I didn’t know how to deal with.

“Some people have said he is as good as former pro Babar.

“He is a great lad to have around the club and he is working hard coaching the juniors and he is even paying his fines for the end of season trip. He is a great lad to have around the club.”
