EX-Rishton star Richard Rostron will make a temporary return to his old club starting tomorrow after Foster’s Lancashire League chiefs gave the all-rounder the all-clear to play during a month back in the UK.

The 28-year-old, who was also the first professional in the history of Ribblesdale League outfit Salesbury, now lives in Australia but is back in England for the wedding of his mate Shaun Hutchinson on June 2.

And while he is here, has been granted permission to play for Jimmy Bibby’s men for his home club and he is available for five league games and the Worsley Cup clash with Todmorden.

That is news that delighted Bibby, who saw his men make their seasonal bow in style last Saturday with a crushing win over Ramsbottom.

“Rick is coming home as he is best man at Hutchy’s wedding,” said Bibby. “This is likely to be the last opportunity he gets to play for his boyhood club and he wanted to play with his best friend in the lead up to the wedding.

“Obviously for us it’s a massive boost for the club and the team to have a player of his quality even for a short period.”

Rostron goes straight into the Rishton side for the clash with Nelson at Seedhill as the 10 Lancashire League teams who were rained off on the opening day try again.

Both the sides in the Seedhill clash are stronger than they would have been had the game gone ahead on April 22 with Nelson also buoyed by the arrival of pro Shahzaib Hasan.

The Pakistani one-day international impressed on his debut last weekend as Nelson recovered from a loss to Enfield with a stunning win over Burnley at Turf Moor 24 hours later.

Colne, Enfield, East Lancashire and Accrington all played on the opening day so have tomorrow off but there are good games in prospect in the Rossendale Valley.

Bacup welcome impressive looking reigning champions Lowerhouse to Lanehead, while Ramsbottom and Todmorden meet at Acre Bottom in what is sure to be a closely-fought clash between two good sides.

They are both at full strength and Steve Brunt’s Burnley are also boosted by the availability of chairman Michael Brown for their trip to Haslingden.

Craig Fergusson’s Church welcome Rawtenstall to West End in the day’s other game and the visitors, who are still without Andrew Payne, will field a sub-pro as they await Jandre Coetsee.
