You might think that after the heavy defeat on Saturday at the hands of Bristol Rovers I would want the season to end now.

But you would be wrong; there is a still lot to play for in the final home game of the season.

We must try to win and secure a top-half finish and some would say, more importantly, three points would see us retain bragging rights over our Lancashire neighbours Morecambe.

Then there is the small matter of the third and final promotion place.

Crawley visit the Crown Ground with 81 points, exactly the same as Torquay in fourth.

I must admit that sending Crawley into the play-off lottery would be good, but since their manager Steve Evans jumped ship to the bright lights of Rotherham the victory will have lost some of its shine.

Whatever the final outlook of the League Two table this season has been a success, we have moved on from the John Coleman/Jimmy Bell dynasty and the Paul Cook/Leam Richardson partnership looks like a winner.

It was great to see yet another youngster make his debut for the Reds and Marcus Carver certainly looks like one for the future, but for the long arm of the Bristol Rovers goalkeeper he would have had a debut goal.

The youth set up at Stanley is certainly something we can be proud of just like the rest of our club.
