PAUL Coote got the goals at one end, Danny Woodhead kept them out at the other and in between, Langho, to a man, battle to county cup success.

The big striker scored with the last kick of the first half while his second was equally as well timed – a spot kick in dying embers of the final following a stirring second half display.

Langho would have counted themselves lucky to have got to the break on level terms, let alone a goal to the good.

But that was down to some exceptional keeping from Woodhead, determined defending in front of him and a touch of good fortune.

Wanderers, winners in 2009, dominated the opening half and twice hit the cross bar through Jason Simpson and then Jamie Shaw.

Langho were a threat on the break, Coote had one effort blocked while Jonny Welch drilled one dangerous cross across the area.

But most of the action was centred around the Langho goal – but Woodhead was equal to everything and anything Wanderers threw at him. First he was off his line quickly to deny Danny Ellis.

He then produced two fine saves in the space of 30 seconds. First he got down to turn Danny Houghton’s low drive around the post.

He then punched the resulting corner clear before brilliantly tipping Ashley Charles’ point blank shot over the bar. Shaw then curled a free kick against the crossbar before Woodhead produced another fine save, this time to deny Houghton again.

It only seemed a matter of time before the opening goal was scored – but it was Langho who got it.

Jamie Stoddart finally found an inch of room and played a superb ball through to Coote who took it in his stride before curling the ball over Keith Bamber in the Wanderers goal.

He then celebrated by pulling on his ‘trademark’ Spiderman mask Against all the odds, Langho went in 1-0 up but emerged in confident mood.

But they had to weather an early onslaught first; Lee Smith rattled the Langho woodwork for a third time, Tom Fowler blocked his follow-up and Woodhead denied Ellis.

However, after the early scare, Langho began to get on top. Coote was foiled by Bamber when Fowler headed Chris Bailey’s corner back across goal. Ian Simpson then played a brilliant reverse ball in to the path of James Tyldesley but he fired straight at the keeper.

Coote mishit after good work by Stoddart and Bailey while left back Adam Welch fired wide after latching on to a loose ball.

Tyldesley was denied again by Bamber – although again his shot lacked real power – and Coote fired just wide after a brilliant burst out of defence by Jonny Welch.

Langho threw on Dan Blackburn to assist Coote up front and they soon combined, Coote turning neatly to play in the sub whose shot was saved.

Langho finally got the second goal their second half display warranted.

Blackburn was tripped in the area following a fine ball by Bailey and Coote, who was made to wait, kept his cool to confidently plant the ball home to seal victory.
